Little ficlet thingo I wrote for the beautiful, kind, and wonderful @roobotdirt. Features Dom and his son, Nue (with mentions of Gundo, ofc.) This isnāt super well edited, so please be kind. lol.
Milk.Ā
Babies, to Dominick Marsden's very, very limited knowledge, were supposed to smell like milk. Or some facsimilie thereof. It was supposed to be a warm and cloyingly sweet smell, he thought as he buried his face in the soft seafoam coils below his chin and toyed with the remote control.
Nue didn't smell like milk. His smell, granted, was sweet and curdling and dug into Dominick's body in the way that only the awe-provoking scent of one's own offspring could, but the undertone was metallic, raw- carnivorous. The lieutenant chuckled to himself and planted an absent-minded kiss against the ashen skin. Nue's bright, round eyes stared up at him, and the toddler's pudgy fingers reached for his face. "...adda."
And it happened again, as it had for the fifth time that week. Inexplicably, tears were welling in the officer's eyes, and that once innocent scent seemed now almost poised to unravel his reality. His arms tightened (with thoughtful restraint) around the plush, chubby frame of his tiny son, and he pressed their foreheads together, breathing in the scent of the impossible...the improbable...the ultimate.
"{I love you so much,}" he breathed in Triig, pulling back and registering the confused, warbling expression on the toddler's face. Dominick mentally kicked himself- of course the child was picking up on his emotional outburst. He "fixed his face," as Caligo would have put it, and buried his nose back in the crook of the chubby neck, sighing in relief as the toddler cooed happily, giggling and grabbing at the back of his robe. Dominick's shuddering sigh tapered off into a chuckle, and then into a full-blown laugh.Ā He pulled Nue back and held him at arm's length, grinning broadly at the youngster. "You're so damn cute!" he crowed.Ā
Nue shrieked back in laughter, tiny curls bouncing. Dominick embraced him again, and was overcome with the sudden sensation of emotional and physical exhaustion. He looked down at Nue, whose giggles were beginning to fade into poorly concealed yawns.
"You sleepy, kiddo?" He murmured into Nue's ear, receiving only a soft chirp in response.
"Daddy too," breathed the lieutenant, letting his eyes flutter shut. Just a moment, just a few minutes.
yooooo so I wrote a scenario for #themoontho and Alex (https://goddamnitgoose.tumblr.com) wanted other people to see it~ itās during Gundoās pregnancy with their actual child, itās pure fluff and the boys are grumps
Sometimes Langundo is grateful that his daughter is a bit of a ditz.
It meant he didnāt have to worry about her noticing that he and her other father werenāt talking at the moment.
Granted, they did that a lot. She was pretty used to them arguing for no reason at all. She went along with it; she knew they didnāt mean it, usually. There was a few times, but it got resolved quickly enough that she never knew. Since sheād figured out that Gundo wasnāt āworkingā and this was her sibling, though, sheād been slightly more⦠protective.
Itād shocked Dominick and Langundo that their daughter started shouting at Dom if they started bickering. Apparently Triigyans were extremely defensive of ALL immediate family. And while Caligo adored Dom and loved him like he really was her Dedaa, she was still her Damaaās little girl. So it was good when she didnāt notice they were bickering, for their ears sake.
Which was the current situation.
Itād been over something stupid, Gundo honestly couldnāt be bothered to really remember, but it was enough for him to dish out silent treatment. Dominick decided to dish it right back, sitting grumpily on the opposite end of the couch from him, their daughter the wall between them. It hadnāt been bad enough for him to get a whole bottle of wine, but he did have a glass of something strong, which pissed Gundo off since theyād somewhat agreed that Dom wouldnāt drink around Gundo since he was missing it bad.
Whatever. He wanted to play dirty, heād just not understand anything Gundo says.
Gogo was sitting between them, watching her movie happily. When sheād ask Dom something, heād put on the smile and agree with whatever she said. When sheād speak to Gundo, heād reply in Triigyan. Any time she didnāt say something to them?
Stone cold silence.
āBed time, Cherry. Letās go.ā
āOkie dokies!ā Gogo jumped up, scrambling over and hugging Gundo tight. The anger faded a little, Gogo always made him soft, and Gundo kissed her all over her cheeks and nose. They did their head butt before she hopped down, grabbing onto Domās hand and going to her room.
Langundo let a breath out, stretching his arms up and wincing a little. He was probably going to take a bath tonight. His back was killing him. Dom would probably offer a half ass massage if he mentioned it but⦠well⦠Gundo wasnāt breaking first.
He stood, turning off the TV and going to the kitchen. The bottle for Domās drink was on the counter and Langundo made a face, grabbing it and putting it away. Asshole was going to have to work for it if he wanted more. He screwed the cap on as tight as he could, too. He paused before cussing under his breath.
He forgot why he came to the kitchen. Great.
He wandered back out, ditching his shirt next to their bed and sitting back on the couch, frowning to himself. What HAD they fought over? Itād been when Caligo was taking a shower.. Something about Roza coming over so much? Yeah, something like that. Okay, Dom had a reason, then. Anything involving Roza made him pissy. On the other hand, it was kinda getting old, not getting any alone time with his husband. They had all day to do their thing, they didnāt need after work hours, too.
Aaannnddd that might be the hormones talking, right there. Langundo was protective, not possessive. He rubbed his face, cursing again. Yeah, this was his fault. Honestly if he wasnāt hurting like he was, heād probably switch to sad in an instant. But dammit, his back and knees were killing him and he really didnāt want Dom to do the whole āI told you soā thing. So, no, he was definitely staying pissed. Okay maybe not pissed.
Just super annoyed.
ā.. You okay..?ā
Gundo glanced up. Dominick still looked pissed off, but was trying to be concerned. Heād been trying really hard through the whole pregnancy, honestly. It was his first baby, it was different than work. It was pretty cute at times. Especially when he was trying to spoil Gundo when he definitely didnāt be needing to.
But right now he was annoyed.
āNe.ā Gundo got up again, ignoring the scowl his husband had aimed at him and going back to the kitchen. Still not knowing why he was there he grabbed a bottle of water, listening to Dom turn the TV back on and him tap away at his phone. Texting Roza, probably. Gundo rolled his eyes; god only knows what he was saying about him. He took a breath, calming himself back down and shuffling back out. He sat on the opposite end of the couch again, cracking the water open.
āRozaās on her way.ā
ā ācourse she is.ā
The silence settled over them again, the sound from the TV not doing much to lighten the mood. Dom finished the rest of his glass, almost hesitating before getting up and Langundo smirked when he heard him begin grumbling under his breath trying to get the bottle open again.
āGood. Struggle.ā
Gundo took the opportunity to shift himself, swiping a pillow from Domās side and wedging it behind himself to ease his aches. Didnāt do much for his knees, but some of the pressure was off. He slumped back as Dominick came back, leveling a cold gaze to combat the accusatory glare aimed at him.
Dom took an exaggerated drink and it was Langundoās turn to glare.
They focused on other things as Dominick flopped back down, Dom at the TV and Gundo at the paper on his water. After heād picked it all off and had a neat little pile on the arm next to him. He took a drink, setting it on top of his belly and rubbing between his eyes. He was seriously considering going to bed. It was early, but it was better than sitting out here ignoring his pissed off husband. Plus he could use all the pillows he wanted without making it seem like he was super sore. That would mean skipping a bath, though, and his back wept at that.
He was so lost in thought that, if it hadnāt moved his drink, he almost didnāt catch the kick.
It wasnāt something weird for Langundo. His job was to be pregnant all the time. He was used to movement. More than used to it, actually. It wasnāt a big deal to him anymore; just another point where he goes āYup. Thatās in there.ā And, honestly, that was his first thought. Stronger than most; the kid was half Triigyan, there were going to be differences from humans. To Gundo, this wasnāt something special.
Except this was Domās baby, and of course it was special.
This was their baby.
He heard Dominick take another drink, the ice clinking on the glass and it occurred to Gundo that his husband would probably want to be part of this. Most humans saw it as a big deal in their pregnancy.
āHey.ā Gundo bent up, reaching and grabbing Domās hand before he could respond.
He dragged the other man over, moving the water bottle and putting Domās hand where it was.
āYer kidās movinā.ā
Dominickās face was contorted in confusion until their baby decided to make its presence known again, another nudge coming up and hitting Domās hand. His expression changed in an instant, all the anger flooding away and now both hands were on Langundoās belly. His hazel eyes were wide, like a little kid just hearing about Santa Claus for the first time, staying completely still as the baby began getting more active. More nudges and kicks and then the rolls came, and Gundo let out a dry laugh.
āChrist, de kidās gonna be like Caligo⦠Wants all de attention, gonna bruise me at dis rate.. What?ā
Dominick was looking at him now, the confused look back, āI.. Ya were.. I thought ya were..ā
āPissed off? Yeah, I am. What, ya think jusā ācause Iām annoyed Iām gonna take dis away from ya? I aināt heartless, Domānik.ā
Then Dom did something that, in Langundoās book, was complete and total cheating.
Tears starting dripping from his eyes and he took a stuttery breath.
āJou, no, wait, donā cry, do NOT cry Domānik,ā Gundo sat up, already feeling the lump in his throat, āDonā, Dom, if YOU start cryinā den IāM gonna start cryinā anā ya know ām not gonna be able tā stop.ā
āThatās.. Thatās our baby..ā
āDominick DONāT.ā
āGundo, thatās our baby..ā
Langundo held it in for roughly 3 seconds before sludge began welling up in his eyes and now he was glad he took his shirt off because it would have gotten stained with both their tears.
He couldnāt really remember why heād been mad anymore. It was hard to be angry when your husband was kissing you and marveling at the baby in your belly.
