So y'all are mad because Ahmanet had a zombie army but y'all forget that mummies are just Egyptian zombies.
Honestly? I don't have faith on this.
The Invisible Man was a good horror film about abuse, but as adaptation to the 1933 original movie (or H.G Wells's original novel) it doesn't work at all.
Despite Abigail is not really a Blumhouse production (it's a Radio Silence one) I still have the bad taste of it. I was hoping a good adaptation of a complex monster ahead of her time and they gave us a generic movie about a vampire ballerina searching daddy's approbation and love.
And then... that "Wolfman" movie from this year... I swear, they butchered one of my favourite monsters and characters. Boring plot, predictable, poor development and horrible design throwing to the garbage all the original myth by Curt Siodmak (and maybe based on the medieval chronicler named Gervase of Tilbury and some Beast of Gevaudan novels). Before you say that it has some nods to Werewolf of London (1935) I'm sure they were unintentional and almost unnoticeable by the way.
So, I don't have any hopes for this upcoming Mummy film produced by Blumhouse. They surely will turn the Mummy as abusive domestic or drug addict to Tana Tea. I don't know.
But I've read great fanfics doing the Dark Universe much, much better than Universal, such as Dark Universe: Of Monsters and Men by Peddler Enterprises, which includes in its canon good movies as The Mummy Trilogy, The Wolfman (2010) and Dracula Untold. In the same universe as The Mummy 2017.
Another cool one is Dark Universe by Zigwolf Studios and Bookdud3. You can find the stories in Deviantart. They are more original stories with nods to another movies, enjoyable and emotional with pretty solid developments and cool villains.
I didn't liked those podcasts of "Are you afraid of the Dark Universe?" Maybe they are more like what Universal was going to do because of how horrible and unfaithful they are.
However, I will watch the new Mummy to have my opinion. But I don't have so much faith or hope on it.
Don’t turn your back on her. The Mummy, in theaters June 9.
