I decided to throw the rest of the katsugeki stuff you guys sent in into one post. Just spoiler tagging still to be safe y’know.
Honestly yeah, part of the disappointment is that we consider Hanamaru to be the fun and not too serious anime adaption. Me, and I’m sure everyone else looked to Katsugeki for a good and kinda dark story. Even if not dark, we wanted something serious and interesting. Hanamaru had it’s flaws as an adaption but at least it was fun. If people still found Katsugeki enjoyable that’s great for them, I wish I could have enjoyed it rip.
The story was a mess. There was no direction the whole way through really. Whenever we thought there was going to be a solid plotline, Katsugeki kind of just dropped it the following episode. It was really frustrating to watch,. I mean, the Kunibros thing is mostly a joke. But the fact they’re brothers should feel relevant for at least a passing second. I mean the brothers on units of different levels of strength could easily have made an internal drama point on it’s own.
Course you can! All opinions are welcome here!
Exactly! The protecting history point felt really weak to me. I mean, yeah the basic plot of the game is that Saniwa are summoning the sword boys to protect history. The strong moments they did have with it like the swords struggling with their personal feelings of knowing they could save people even if it changed history weren’t treated well to me at all. It was very basic, but mostly the concept in practice was shoved aside. Hori didn’t actually try change history in the end, when the second unit failed their mission somehow history wasn’t greatly affected. Sure, there were small things changed as a result, but we expect bigger backlash for failing don’t we? Is history delicate or not?
“What are we fighting for?” “What does protecting history really mean?” Those sorts of questions and hesitation in the characters were more... Questions than anything. Like, it was brought up to sound thought provoking and conflicting but little actually happened.
Even Hanamaru had more balls in the end and actually had Yasu’s trying to tamper with history show an immediate affect.
The first unit literally only served the purpose of showing what a strong unit is, showing us just how weak the second unit was in the beginning. And of course, to make sure Jiji appeared because if the old man wasn’t there we would have had protesters. Honebami in particular was just a temporary viewpoint character for the switch episode really... It’s horrible.
The final battle looked cool, mostly. Some of the spinning and flipping and stuff looked too flashy and rather than looking cool just bothered me to see. Like the flip Hizamaru did that I mentioned in my reaction. Tsuru, I get it he’s a flashy guy. But everyone showing off? I didn’t like it.
We all need to weep together. Aside from the treatment of Mutsu, Katsugeki goofed. The positivity that u and everyone who watched that show deserves is an apology from Horikawa for ending things on a sour and frustrating note. I like Konnosuke more than Katsugeki Hori guys to make my point since we all know I don’t like Konnosuke.
