THE NEAR WITCH by V. E. Schwann, narrated by Heather Wilds. It follows a teenage girl that tries to solve the mystery as to why small children in the village are going missing. The village is called Near and the Witch is part of its centuries old folklore. It is YA but it’s not full of the typical teenage angst. “Maybe one day the words will pour out like so many others, easy and smooth and on their own. Right now they take pieces of me with them.” ⚜️ I’ve been having a hard time writing. Every time I sit down to do it, it feels like it’s taking parts of me with it. I’ve been sitting with this one scene for weeks now, trying to get it down but it’s not working. Not happening. I know all the conventional wisdom for situations like this. Let it rest. Skip it. Get anything down and then come back and fix it. And I’ve tried all of those things, but the scene is haunting me. I’m hoping to make sense of something today or tomorrow. Sometimes writing feels like transcribing dreams. Have you read The Near Witch? I finished it yesterday and it was incredible. Ahead of its time in so many ways. I’m thrilled that @veschwab got a rerelease.
