if i had to take a guess at the overall theme of the game from prerelease information, itd be "How far will you go?"

How far will Cai go to save his father and live a peaceful family life? Will he kill? Will he give up part of his humanity?

How far will Leda go for revenge? Who will she kill? How cold will her blood run?

How far will Theodora go to save Saramis? What did she give up for her magical arm? What price will she and her people pay for their freedom?

How far will Dietrich go for a good fight? When is enough enough? Will his bloodlust win?

And it's less defined for Eshmel but I assume it's how far will they go to change the past to save the future? Will there be any choices between saving a life then and saving many later?

This might mean nothing but all of the lords were assigned a carnivore animal, and 3/4 of them an apex predator

Cai is given the fox- an animal often despicted as deceiving and cunning, they are often quiet and agile while hunting and rely on stalking and their acute senses while doing it. They are excellent at adapting, they can survive tons of different conditions and ecosystems like forests and fields

Dietrich the lion- known for living in packs and being very strong, males often look for bigger opponents and are the ones in charge of protecting, whilst the females are the ones who do the hunting. They represent royalty and in Ancient Egypt there was a lioness goddess who incarnated justice, war and the power of restoration.

Theodora has the wolf- though a lot of times they are called ‘lone’ wolves are actually excellent team workers, they live in extremely organized packs and are known for their empathy; they never leave one of the pack alone instead they take care of them and honor their elders a bunch. In contrast of the lion wolves do everything together, they have a leader not a boss. They are also key species. They symbolize in Roman mythology fertility, protection and the origin of its founders.

Leda and the Eagle- eagles are animals with a great size, excellent sight, power, and flight speed. In a lot of cultures they are seen are symbols of power and freedom; they represent living your life with determination. Spiritually they are seen as bridges between our world and the afterlife

I’m nervous about Fortune’s Weave because Theodora is the character who immediately hooked me the hardest…but they also gave her gray skin disease and the most sexualized outfit of the main cast, which makes me worry about how she’s going to be handled narratively. Because another interesting thing about her kingdom is that the written word is illegal, so they have to rely of oral tradition and memory for their history.

So realistically, there is no logical reason to ban the written word except to keep the masses ignorant. When people can learn about their world and circumstances, and when it’s easier for them to communicate with other people, they’re a lot less easy to control. So how long has this been going on? Theodora is a young queen and it seems like she’s new to the throne. Is she aware that this is an issue? Is this something she has ever questioned? She cares deeply for her people. Does she know they’re being oppressed by the control over knowledge? Who made this law? Why is it still being enforced?

This could be SO interesting if it’s handled well, but it could be hot garbage if not. They could just as easily go the ‘oooh ignorant exotic brown people don’t know how to read’ route, which is my greatest fear. I guess we’ll just have to see what they do with it!
