Hello, my name is Palindrome! I'm currently doing my best to pretend that I'm a functional and well adjusted adult, with varying levels of success! Around this neck of the woods you'll find history stuff, nature stuff, whatever fandoms I'm into at the moment, fanfics I write when I can muster up the energy, and a variety of fun facts I come across or things I find interesting. Feel free to follow or drop me a line, I promise I'm quite tame. I’m ProcrastinatingPalindrome on ao3 if you care to read the stuff I write! In case of Tumblr Apocalypse, I’m also acepalindrome on Pillowfort, Cohost and Mastodon.
I know people like to clown on aspects of classic Disney films that don't feel grounded in reality. But I've worked both front and back of house in restaurants of varying quality. And if I found out our line cook or something served a full plate of spaghetti to two dogs in an alley, I would consider that like. Like not good. But possible.
The Billingsley family bought the Middle Ground Lighthouse from the Coast Guard for 2005 for $31,000. Aside from the deterioration they say it stunk to high heavens from birds making it their rookery.
The fixer-upper was no problem for this couple and their two college-aged sons. They happen to be a family of engineers.
It was a wreck, having been abandoned since 1955. But, with the help of other family and friends, it took them 3yrs. to restore, and now it's for sale, fully furnished. Offers should be in the $350k to $450k range. (Taking offers until July 4th). They still love it, but, now that the sons have moved out of state, they feel it's time to move on.
BEFORE & AFTER. Zillow wouldn't take the listing, so it has its own website. It will accommodate 10, but the most that the family hosted was 45. Here are some before & after photos of the property. Of course, it's only accessible by boat. It's in Chesapeake Bay, Newport News, VA.
I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Yikes! Look at the before.
The porthole room only had a hole/
Now, it accommodates a lot of family & friends.
And, even has a cool mural.
The kitchen was basically non-existent.
It's pretty roomy and functional now.
It accommodates a ton of people. Imagine Thanksgiving here?
The bedrooms were in bad shape, too.
They were kind of creepy, too.
But, now they're cheerful and bright.
The deck.
This must be the bathroom door.
There's also a toilet under the stairs in the kitchen.
The cellar.
Looks like they keep the equipment down here.
And, finally, the lantern room. The Coast Guard has access to this.
Beautiful new lantern.
The owners said it's a fun place.

A conversation I don’t think yall are ready for yet is that you can love a character sooooo much and relate to them and see yourself in them but at the end of the day they’re still fake and that’s why someone else’s take on them or headcanon about them isn’t a direct message about you or insult to your identity. If your identity is so wrapped up in a character that you can’t distinguish between reality and fiction, then you are the problem. Not some random person online who interprets the character differently than you.
this also goes for when you hate a character soooooo much and relate them to every person who hurt you and see everyone you hate in them, at the end of the day they're still fake and someone else's love for them is not a commentary on your trauma
#i also think we should not be using 'i relate to the character' as a claim to authority on the character #just because you relate does not mean your interpretations are law for the rest of us or even correct or 'more accurate' than anyone else's #it just means you relate full stop lmao. Remember when Xbox was going to basically ban used games for the xbox one, and Playstation made fun of them with that video titled "how to share games on Playstation" and it was just one guy handing another a game disk? And now Playstation is getting rid of physical disks entirely
I've slowly been chipping away at drawing scenes from that imaginary Muppet retelling of the Princess Bride, figured it was about time to share what I've drawn on Tumblr!
villain character who has a last minute change of heart and sacrifices their life to defeat an even bigger bad but it entirely does not land as a redemption with the heroes. the heroes are just like "oh hell yeah two birds with one stone. thank fucking god i really didnt wanna have to deal with that guy anymore. good riddance."
Character archetypes that I will always fuck with:
- child soldiers
- eldest daughters
- anyone who’s tormented with guilt
- enthusiastic nerds (especially if they actually want to share what they know instead of being condescending about their area of expertise)
- mad scientists (the campier the better. ESPECIALLY women.)
- guy who seems cool at first glance but is then revealed to be a giant doofus
- female knights
- class traitors in the right direction
- people who would choose duty over love (not for lack of love in their hearts, just that they have something they’re fighting for and everything else comes second to that)
