Taste in music/literature:
Yahiko’s a big fan of music with energy, and he’s a sucker for pop music with catchy hooks but otherwise no real complexity. He’s constantly singing Top 40 choruses to himself in a modern AU because he gets those earworms bad. Some specific things from his playlist though:
• High Hopes by Panic at the Disco• Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer• The Violence by Rise Against (an early Akatsuki anthem)
Literature-wise, he’s fond of fiction that draws heavily on real history, but not necessarily history texts themselves because of how dense they can be. Jiraiya endeavored to give him (and Konan and Nagato) a decent education during his time with them, but Yahiko isn’t at a reading level where lengthy, pedantic explanations will make any sense to him. He’d much rather listen to other people recount their stories than read an academic’s writing anyway because 1) history seems more real that way, and 2) he tends to ask a lot of questions. With that said, lack of time has kept his library pretty small, but he definitely has copies of all of Jiraiya’s novels. if he’s actually read them, that’s another story…
It’s... legible. His kana almost never lines up though. Most of his loops end up being too small, and his lines rarely intersect where they’re supposed to. But his writing can be read (with enough effort). His notes to himself tend to be shorthand scribbles, but anything longer mirrors the way he speaks (lots of slang, informal endings, and the worst run-on sentences). Writing talent seems to be the one thing Jiraiya didn’t pass on to him.

Yahiko is definitely the kind of person who’s constantly on the go, until he’s not. His sleep schedule is only regular because his activity levels tend to be pretty consistent on a day-to-day basis, and he’ll fall asleep as soon as he’s worn himself out. He has no concerns about where he ends up sleeping, whether that’s on the floor, on a bed, or on someone’s shoulder, and is really flexible about most things involving sleep. He doesn’t need a ritual to wind down, nor does he need his environment to be a particular way (as long as he’s full and dry, he’ll go right to sleep). The one exception to this is the sound of the rain. He’s grown so accustomed to hearing it that he actually struggles to sleep when he stays somewhere that doesn’t have that constant noise.
He’s a pretty heavy sleeper once he’s asleep, and generally sleeps a solid 6 hours without waking, but he’s prone to tossing and kicking, so bed partners beware. Nagato and Konan both have probably woken up to one of his arms across their necks. His body tends to emit quite a bit of heat, too, so he doesn't usually sleep with too many blankets, but it makes him excellent for cuddling on cold nights.
