What if...
we evolved on a different planet, and eventually had the technology to leave or maybe had to because it was dying or some other natural disaster was occurring. Through various wars/disagreements, space plagues?, accidents, etc., our population dwindled and when we got to our new planet, we were so fractured and set in our beliefs and opinions, that we all disperse to separate areas, fighting for resources and territory. These primal goals reignited our primal instincts, and all someone would have had to do is leave with the ship and we’ve got no technology, no way to leave, no history… on a whole new planet with no evidence of our great heritage and accomplishments! This could totally be what happened to us… it would explain inherited memories of fantastical, technologically advanced cultures (Atlantis, for example, could be in ruins on a whole other planet), cities, civilisations, the appeal and pull of the stars, aliens… & how people way back then built so-called ‘alien’ things here, pyramids, etc… they stilled remembered how (or perhaps built them when they first arrived- before the "fall", so to speak), because they had grown up with the technology, and maybe even kept some of it for themselves. But their descendants would only know the stories… and they would fall into myth, of course, because what evidence supports it? None here…. As postulated by the Ancient Astronaut theory, we also could be the mixed descendants of the indigenous species and the alien race that came to Earth…
I DID IT!!! I held the presentation for my master seminar, I answered the questions, I survived it like any true hobbit would! I passed the test, I will remain Emm!

Struggling with Heidegger?
A few years ago a professor told me that all of my arguments and reasoning was coming from an old paradigm that was undermined and bypassed by Martin Heidegger’s phenomenological destruction of the modern Cartesian era in philosophy. So I took on the challenge of reading Being and Time, one of the hardest to read and understand books that has ever been written. For anyone else who has attempted this, then you’ve shared my bewilderment. I struggled for weeks in the introduction and eventually gave up. Thankfully I was able to take a class on that text only a year later. Since then, Heidegger’s thought has had a significant presence in all of my thinking.
Recently I wrote a paper justifying his infuriating writing style. I don’t believe it is beneficial to approach a text with feelings of resentment. If you are seeking to read and understand Heidegger, then you will have to come to terms with his methodology. My thesis in this paper is that his style is necessary for the project he is undertaking. He seeks to get outside of our average everyday worlds that are shaped and so limited by our language. The paper seeks to show how his stylistic choices literally prove the points he is making about language.
