I sat down this afternoon to read the synopsis of this new book published by @penguinbooks. The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani sounds like a haunting psychological thriller especially for anyone who is a mother. The idea of this book came to the author when she heard the news of a New York nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, who in 2012 killed two of the children in her care before trying to take her own life. Don’t worry, this is not a spoiler alert, as the opening sentence in this book is: “The baby is dead.” This book was originally published in French with rave reviews. It should be noted that in the U.K. this book goes by the name Lullaby. 🍼 🍼 Synopsis: When Myriam, a French-Moroccan lawyer, decides to return to work after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their two young children. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family's chic apartment in Paris's upscale tenth arrondissement, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties.
