‘The Prince’ (David Austin, 1990) is one of the most beautiful and fascinating roses that I grow in my garden! It is blooming right now and I am over the moon to see and smell its absolutely gorgeous flowers, again. These velvety, burgundy, wine red flowers that age to the darkest royal purple are so exquisite and they come with the most pleasing warm old rose fragrance that you can imagine. Can you tell that I am in love? I grow this rose on its own roots and the rose bush stays small and is not very vigorous in my garden. It is also not a prolific bloomer and suffers from powdery mildew frequently when the conditions are right, but the unsurpassed beauty of the blooms make me happily put up with all of his shenanigans.
