THE STRYPES: MANCHESTER

Manchester’s Ritz ballroom witnessed Irish band The Strypes first performance here. The last time I saw/photographed them headlining was Feb 2014, at the Academy, the same night as Prince was doing a surprise gig down the road at the bigger Academy. We did a quick dart and grabbed a lucky ticket to Prince just before the end of their set.

I also caught their set at Bingley Live 2014.

The Strypes are on their second album ‘ Little Victories’, which has just been released and they have taken a slight venture away from their first album ‘Snapshot’, with a more heavier feel.

SMOKE FAIRIES - MANCHESTER

A bit of a last minute decision to apply for the supporting act to Public Broadcasting Service - the Smoke Fairies, who were playing at one of my favourite venues The Ritz. The band have been firm favourites of one of my gig buddies Robin, he knows his stuff, so treated myself to their recent album. Bang I was sold on them, lovely delicious shimmering music. Jack White even signed them up for a track in 2009, that man has got good taste.

Public Service Broadcasting were certainly an interesting concept, but not very exciting to photograph (not from the pit anyway).
