Oh I was going through my papers and found my old (kinda abandoned) Unicron AU lore, I thought you'd like this
One of Cybertron’s failed titansparks. For reasons unknown- possibly foul play, an experiment, or simply an unfortunate mutation, it broke away from the homeworld at the genesis of the Cybertronian race and disappeared into deep space and into deep legend. Upon its corruption, it took with it the unlucky harvesters surveying the nascent core at the time- they sunk into the core and became the Unicronians (including Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, Shadow Striker, and others).
Without a connection to Cybertron and due to its mutation, its ability to produce dark energon completely ceased (energon nearly overpowered its titanspark), and it was forced to find other methods of producing sustenance for itself. When it discovered that it could eat matter and transform raw materials into unicronium and dark energon, it immediately compelled its inhabitants to bring it to the nearest asteroid belt for harvesting, and the rest was history.
It was the Unicronians who built the Maw of Unicron- a gaping hole with teeth that opened into its core to pull in non-unicronian matter and bring it into itself. Every time it eats, the unicronium (aka non-energy matter sources) grow the planet’s surface, making Unicron bigger. By the time it came back to attack Cybertron, it was actually almost bigger than it, when it had originally been maybe a fraction of the size.
They'd also have a very interesting culture very reminiscent of a cult; they act very hospitable and downright friendly to outsiders and almost never in-fight with each other, but their intent is to drop you directly into Unicron's core and convert you into one of them. Their argument is that it would make the universe much more peaceful if everyone shared a common goal of providing for the masses (by serving Unicron) and that they're "saving" people by doing so, very "colonial-savior" mindset they have there...
And you were correct, i really do like this concept! Its a really interesting and unique take on his origins! Would that also mean the event that created him would be lost to history since it happened so long ago? Or would the cybertronians know about it to some extent?
The growing bigger/gaining mass part reminds me of what idw had going on in the unicron comic where he would gain mass whenever he ate a planet. Idk if that is intentional or not, but I like it! :>
Also If Im remembering this right, I believe i seen somewhere that titans can make or atleast manipulate life on a planet to some extent? So the unicronians being created from the event would make a lot of sense (if it is true, my memory isn't exactly the best)
Oh man, oh man, hospitable unicronians sound scary but not in the usual way, more in line with the 'something is off but idk what it is' way. Especially if the place looks overly nice and made specifically to keep the visitor drawn there. I'm honestly getting hotel California vibes from it, especially the last part of the song. 'You can check out any time you like but you can never leave'
