#Repost @omf_singapore with @get_repost ・・・ Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, Jesus's Commissioning to make disciples was not just to His own disciples only, but to every single man and woman who call themselves a believer. It is not about how ready you are, but how are you letting the Holy Spirit lead you into doing God's Work. As it is, the great Commission is no option for consideration, but a command directly from the Lord to be obeyed. What will you do to accomplish God's Work to reach the nations? #TheGreatCommission #TheTaskUnfinished #omf #quoteoftheday #missions https://www.instagram.com/p/Bstbcf0hgahYEHYH29k643qb-F49aXw__JoG5Q0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1cdlgbgkhz57t
Repost from @omf_int - Lots of people have heard about culture shock. Its that feeling of disorientation, confusion, or frustration when you are suddenly surrounded by a foreign culture and a foreign language, and are not sure which way is up. You don’t know what people are saying, where to find the basic necessities of life, or how to do things that a child would know in your home country. Its the funky smells, the weird dress, and baffling behaviors. But the nice thing about culture shock is that you get over it. It may takes a few days, weeks, or months, but it does pass. All those bizarre things don’t seem so bizarre anymore. In fact, some of them seem down right normal and expected. Some of them you really come to enjoy. Those high levels of stress that you experienced at first are way lower now… usually. And it is that “usually” that I want to talk about in this post. New missionaries and other foreigners in a new culture may eventually get past the culture shock phase of their life overseas, there is something that you never get over, at least not completely. That’s culture stress. it is caused by those aspects of culture that are familiar and known, but are still frustrating and annoying, perhaps infuriating. Even after a missionary gets a grasp on the language and is familiar with many of the ins and outs of their host culture, there are still things that don’t sit well with them and induce a type of low level stress that would not be present in their home country. Culture stress can come from lots of different sources. It could be the mere fact of looking different than everyone in the culture around you, and being seen as a curiosity or a source of money before you are seen as a person. It could be the fact you are openly and blatantly charged twice the price at certain locations simply because you look like a foreigner. The next time you pray for missionaries, or for any Christian living cross-culturally, pray that God would help them to deal with the cultural stress that they experience on a regular basis. #Repost @omf_us with @get_repost ・・・ The Great Commission was never meant to be fulfilled by a brave few working alone. To reach the world with the Gospel, God’s people need to train, equip, encourage, and support each other. For many missionaries, their work is made possible by the generous and faithful support of churches. But what if your church has never sent out or supported missionaries before? That trip back to Thailand changed everything for Xavier and Florence (not their real names). They were now certain that God was calling them to reach the Hmong in East Asia. They had become all too aware of those who have never heard of Jesus. Xavier’s previous view of Thailand had been out of a plane window on his way to Paris as a 13-year-old finally leaving the refugee camp that had been home for the last eight years. As soon as he and Florence returned from their trip to Thailand, they registered at Bible College and started seriously exploring options for going to Asia. Now, three years later, they are approaching the end of their Bible College course and ready to apply for a mission agency in order to serve in East Asia. They want the support of their church and know that mission agencies will not accept them without a sending church. But their church has never sent a missionary before or even contemplated doing so. They have no structure for the selection or endorsement of a missionary, and they run on a very low budget. The Church Council has met in order to discern how to proceed. And now the case of Xavier and Florence will be presented to the church General Assembly to vote on sending them. And this is all before the couple even start the application process! Will you pray for those on the journey to long-term missions? Pray for those who feel called to mission but whose churches simply do not now how to proceed with them Pray for church leaders to have wisdom, discernment, and flexibility as they consider sending missionaries for the first time. #TheTaskUnfinished #journeytolongtermmissions
