The words "for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part" is even more challenging than one could ever think of -- especially during old age. I can see that through the old, tired eyes of my Mom and also from the seemingly wounded ego of my Dad. It's not because he's some kind of an egotistical maniac (ahemmm... like my choice of boyfriends -- before. hekhek 🤦‍♀️), but because I know that it's hard for him to accept the fact that he's not as strong as he used to be, physically, which eventually is tearing his soul apart. I can see that in his eyes. I know it's hard for him to see my Mommy getting exasperated and always crying (because my Mom is a really chronic worrier and a whiner) and I know that if there's one last thing that my Dad would ever let us feel, it would be to worry about things. My Dad has always been a clown -- my personal clown and a clown to people who knows him too. He likes to make people laugh. But now that he's kinda struggling not to worry about his condition, I just felt the need to step into his shoes -- which is well-- not so ME. Every waking hour that I spend with him, I always make it a point to greet him or to do some "peek-a-boo" just to make him smile and I always greet him with my quirkiest "Daddy!!!" to hide what I really feel. Then I would glare at my Mom and give some signal to stop getting "too emotional." But the truth is, me and my Mom? We're just the same. I'm just good at hiding it. To my Mom, sorry if ever I find you emotionally weak at times. It must be a projection of what I fear -- to be weak.
