The big thing that kills me about it is that it is really only DMC in name only. If you changed the names it could be a completely different game. And trust me, I have talked with one of my friends in depth about why it just looks bad.

That's a totally legit complaint. I get that it's a reboot, but it seems to have just shat on everything in the originals. It's just that complaining about the story in a hack n' slash game is like complaining about candy being sweet. Sure, there's some that aren't like that, but the vast, vast majority have terrible stories that are pretty much only there to give a reason for all the murder.
