Hello! Just saw your Old English post and wondered if you've done much on Old Scots? I'm doing an assignment just now on Old Scots poetry and just wondered if it's something you have interest/knowledge in too!

hi! I do have the interest, but unfortunately, not the knowledge. Although, I suppose, since it’s actually evolved from the Northumbrian dialect of Old English… I definitely want to get into Old Scots, well, Scots in general, at some point, it’s just a matter of finding the (right) time.

Hello! Thanks for your response :). It's more allomorphy, but it's linked! Particularly "Some of the morphemes in the data have different forms depending on the properties of the following segment (phoneme). Specify which morphemes this applies to, and state what conditions the allomorphy and how the allomorphs differ in form." I feel like I know what it means, but I can't work out how to get to it, haha! No worries if you're not sure! Thank you :).

Alright, so I'm assuming you know what phonemes, morphemes, and allomorphs are, but if you don't, I'll gladly explain :)

This question probably comes with some examples, or is in reference to some other language, right? Probably an aggultinating or at least highly morpheme-based language. The only example of something like the process described is Japanese, which isn't quite spot on. In Japanese, the word kana is used in the words Katakana and Hiragana (these are the two phonetic scripts used in Japanese, and they are collectively called the kana.). It can be said that kana is being used as a morpheme, and kana and gana are allomorphs.  Because of the morphological rules in Japanese, the way hira and kana are being combine requires the voicing of the first phoneme in kana. 

Better example is Sandhi in general. Sanskrit consonants become voiced in certain situations, and in others they actually assimilate into a nasal, because it makes saying the next part of the word easier.

The question asks which morphemes are changed as a result of the phonemes that follow them (in the example of Japanese that I gave, it changes as a result of what was before it, so it's clearly not a perfect example), and which morphemes are considered to be the same despite sounding different (i.e. allomorphs) and how.

There's a NACLO problem dealing with this in Japanese

It’s not very scary, but it’s a bit weird.

I was dreaming that I was reaching into this drawer in my kitchen, and as I was taking my hand out of the drawer this person was standing there and they were repeatedly slamming the drawer closed on my hand, and they broke all the bones in my hand and fingers and they were looking at me asking me why I didn’t just take my hand out of the drawer but I couldn’t because of them and they just kept breaking my hand and when I woke up my hand was limp and my fingers felt tender all day.

How I feel about this character: I wish I could be more like her. She's definitely a role model.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I didnt really like her with David.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. I really like Mike and I think they're perfect together (Paul Rudd is wonderful), but I wish she had gotten together with Joey in the end, or at least had a thing with him during the series.
