I’m going to go w/ Only my Romans for now just bc ;)(PS: Cicero and Atticus get an Honorary spot on this but I would need a whole post for them)5. Tie between Brutus and Portia and Agrippina and Germanicus, the former because Brutus’s love for his wife is one of his best (read: only good) qualities, the latter because I adore Agrippina the elder and love that she went w/ her husband on his military campaigns? That she was so assertive and powerful and driven? (Augustus loved her / wrote letters to her too..) They seem like Power Couple material rip Germanicus….4. Mark Antony and Gaius Scribonius Curio- i LOVE them as a couple because even though they were both (mostly) aligned w/ Clodius they’re such different people and I know Cicero goes into detail about their relationship for Invective purposes but it just makes me love them both more. Also, Antony was banned from Curio’s house because he was a bad influence (he was in debt and Curio’s dad didn’t approve) so he snuck in through the ceiling to see him? When will your fave ever?3. Publius Clodius Pulcher and Fulvia are the ultimate populares political power couple. IMO, this is a political marriage that became real love. Clodius never went anywhere without Fulvia by his side, Cicero comments- except on the day he was murdered. After Clodius’s death, Fulvia worked to preserve his power and legacy by marrying first Curio and then Antony, both of whom begin passing laws w/ a more populist bent after their marriage to Fulvia- that Clodian Influence. Plus, you have to love that Fulvia was a better soldier than Clodius ever was lmfao.2. Mark Antony (he’s on this list twice lmfao…) and Cleopatra… there is nothing I can say about them that Plutarch and Shakespeare haven’t already said in an infinitely more beautiful / intelligent way. I love this tragic doomed melodramatic relationship so much, so so much. Antony was absolutely head over heels for her, whether Cleopatra legitimately felt the same way, YMMV, but like….he died in her arms… please1. Augustus and Livia… I adore that the normally rational Octavian bent / broke laws and customs and acted on pure emotion bc of his Love for Livia… I love that despite the sitcom-esque beginning of their relationship they stayed married for 51 years… I love how important she was to him personally and politically, she was one of his most trusted advisors, I love that Livia worked to maintain Augustus’s legacy after his death, and that she kept all his letters to her…. you know he calls her “my dear Livia” in them?
