The Walking Dead Season 1 (2010) Rick Grimes is placed in a coma after an arrest goes wrong. When he wakes, the world as he knows it has changed and is now ravaged by walkers. He must find the ones he loves and find out just what happened in his time out. Back to the start... again! I’ve watched The Walking Dead from the start at least 3 times, this time I can document it season by season! The first season introduces us straight away to our protagonist in a way that’s full of intrigue. The season has a delightful progression that introduces us to an array of characters at a nice pace, keeping things interesting without being overbearing. The story has a great simplicity with layers that don’t delve too deep that can leave you confused, but rather add extra elements to the main story and compliment it nicely. The characters we follow are all unique, offer different personality traits and make a fine viewing experience as most if not all play a part in moving the squad and themselves forward in the story. Combine that with some strong performances notably from Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Steven Yeun and Sarah Callies and it works a peach! If anything I forgot that season one is only 6 episodes long, whilst it does a fair amount in them episodes, it’s not enough to delve into a deep rooted and complex season, however I don’t think that were the intentions at this point and the 6 episodes keep things full of intrigue at a digestible rate. I love love love Bear McCreary’s work and he brings a very special element to The Walking Dead. From the iconic theme tune, to the sublime score that brings the show to life, Bear does a fantastic job of keeping the show full of emotion. Telltales The Walking Dead: The Final Season (2018) When Clementine and AJ find a nearby school after being saved from a wreckage, all the answers to their problems seem to be over... but all isn’t as it seems! Before I start this review I just want to thank @skyboundgames and Kirkman for picking up this game when @telltalegames fell through. It’s an absolute masterpiece and to think this could have gone unfinished is a scary thought. You pick up the story with Clementine and AJ surviving by themselves and encounter some trouble and a new group. The narrative and direction of the story from there is just sublime. The switch from decisions impacting yourself, to now impacting you, the group and shaping AJ is something you need to balance throughout. There are some insane shocks, some heart tearing moments and winding twists that have your head working overtime. Some of the decisions from season 1 play a part here, and the way the game brings Clementines story full circle is marvellous. I simply do not have enough words to tell you how good this game is. The game marvels in its ability to change things up, and offer angles and player experience, that personally, I’ve never experienced before. Some of the choices I needed to make not just for me but for AJ had me thinking outside of the game ‘what would I do’. The gameplay element works beautifully, the game has changed slightly giving you a new perspective when you move around, offering a closer more intimate engagement, that and the graphical overhaul from series 1 and you have yourself a winner here. The soundtrack from Jared Johnson is counted for and present and doesn’t disappoint one bit again. To put it simply, this game and series is an amalgamation of everything that makes a game stunning. And it’s that in every sense of the word. Overall, if you don’t play this game, you’re only playing yourself. This and the series are immaculate and are one of the greatest I’ve ever played.
