What is your top 5 favorite facts about Grant?

Let me know if these are facts...or just things I love about Grant in general lol

It's overplayed a lot but it's ALWAYS my favorite when I read a Grant bio....Grant setting the jumping record at West Point. It's always so dramatic, how the teacher or whoever called for Grant and he just rode up on this big horse and soared across the jump. Horse Girl Grant ™ confirmed, love to see it

Grant's love of reading? It's pretty well known that he loved to read at West Point and when he was with Julia, he would read her the newspaper or a book he was reading. And even when he was away in Mexico, he talked about a book he and Julia had both read. And I think a lot of that helped with his way of writing (even if his grammar and spelling isn't 100% which I mean, mood lol)

I mean I guess you could count this as a fact but my man....had 3 separate Confed armies surrender to him. Anyone else racking up stats like that?? Nah. His power, his mind 😎😎

Oh another thing I love and find interesting is how much he loved to travel. He had a lot of freedom growing up, I mean he was roaming Ohio and Kentucky all by himself for his father when he was needed. And when he went to West Point, the thing that excited him the most was visiting the cities along the way. The way he describes Mexico while he's there is interesting cause he seems to like the place a lot (and he has close ties with people later in his life) and then during his world tour, he goes everywhere! And even tho he always said he wanted to go back to the US...I think he liked being able to go and see all these places...is that a fact? Sure what the hell not, Grant was a traveler. He'd have lots of air miles nowadays.

Grant being the first lieutenant general since George Washington is always fucking awesome. Winfield Scott was only a brevet lieutenant general, so he didn't hold that 3-star rank...so the fact that Grant got it at such a crucial time...and then after the war became the first 4-star general?? And I think I saw something recently, I think in Congress or something....that they are trying to give Grant the highest rank of general now for his 200th birthday next year. Which would be wilddddd. But yeah, a man of doing things first! what a guy

What sort of cross stitch project are you working on right now?

Ahh I actually just finished one and started another! Did this about a week ago (pretty simple but I like little projects):

Aaaand I just started this one which is the fourth in a set of twelve (obviously month-themed!). And so much work.

Do you recommend Red Dead Redemption Two? Gameplay wise is it more of a FPS like Call of Duty? Do you have to play with other people like Fortnight? And lastly do you think that the different editions really change the gameplay a lot?

I highly recommend it! I wouldn’t say it’s a COD-type game. Gameplay-wise, COD is like: go shoot some dudes a few times in a few different places and you win.* RDR is a little more story-driven; the game still tells you to go to a place and shoot some dudes (usually), but there's a more robust narrative and a more tangible reason for the shooting, plus there are lots of other things to do besides shooting dudes. And with auto-aim the shooting dudes part is basically: Aim, nudge up a tad to get their head in your sights, and then shoot. I’m actually a big fan of shooting in RDR2 -- I don’t think I’ve played another game where cocking the gun was its own action (even other games with single-action firearms). I’m not, like, a huge gun person, I just think historical firearms are neat, and while it takes a little getting used to -- all of a sudden aiming & pressing the shoot button three times means firing two times rather than three -- it’s wonderfully immersive. I like it so much that I refuse to use double-action revolvers/pistols even if they have better stats lmao.

*(Keep in mind I haven’t played a COD game since Big Red One, so idk if the gameplay formula has changed drastically over the years.)

You can play with other people on Red Dead Online (I’m on xbox if you wanna play together [unfortunately there’s no cross-platform play]), but the story mode is 100% single-player.

As far as editions go, I got the special edition and I don’t regret it -- I think it was on sale when I bought it, though. It gives you a free Thoroughbred near the beginning of the game (there’s a mission that takes you to a stable and you can pick it up there), which is a big boost when you’re starting out, and that horse is good enough that I never used another horse until she died (RIP Princess 😔). I didn’t really notice the other bonuses, but I think there’s a few discounts and things you get too. The ultimate edition is only worth it if you plan to play a lot of Online -- having a Thoroughbred during the early levels of that would have been veeeery helpful lol.

I suggest you play (or, at the very least, watch someone else play) the first Red Dead Redemption before starting 2 if you haven’t already. It takes place after 2, but I think 2′s story is richer when you know what happens in 1. Plus there are a lot of quality of life improvements in 2 that you’ll be hyper-aware of if you later decide to pick up 1.

As soon as I finish helping clean out the office, I plan on making frosted sugar cookies, (no one in my family likes gingerbread) and might make some “general” shaped ones to decorate as Grant and Sherman. I may post pictures afterwards.

I bought some books; one on Sherman, a biography on Mrs Lee, another with one on Julia Dent Grant, and a book on the uniforms of the Civil War, just thought you’d like to hear about that. I also had a chance to purchase Revel Yell but it was a little too expensive

Oh that’s awesome!! Which Sherman book did you get? Rebel Yell is a great book but you’re right, unless it’s a lot unless you can find it at a secondhand bookshop or something

Last Saturday, I got the chance to go to a screening of “They Shall Not Grow Old”. It is, I guess remastered, colorized footage of wwi. I found it just breathtaking, it didn’t seem like you were seeing 100 year old footage. It just seems like the sort of thing you’d find interesting.

I saw a few previews for that, it looked stunning!! I’m gonna try to see it this weekend, I bet it’s incredible on the big screen
