Not A Baby(Sitter)

Collage kids did not generally want to hang out with under-aged high school students. Maybe the did if they were related or something but generally not otherwise. So Peter fully knew what having Jan there meant when his Dad had a thing and his Mom had a thing. If they thought he didn’t know what it meant they were all very sadly mistaken. They didn’t jump him up several grades in school because he couldn’t put two and two together and come up with four.
So he very pointedly had his textbooks out on the table. His advanced books that were even a bit beyond some of high school classes. Peter might be a twelve year old in high school but that didn’t make him a baby in need of some more adult type person watching him. People in high school were the baby-sitters, not the ones being watched.
Peter kept his expression as blank as possible while he kept his gaze fixed on the books. “I’m fine, you don’t have to stay. Dad’s just being paranoid again. Sometimes I think he’d wrap me in bubble-wrap if I let him.” Which likely not far off from the truth. As much as he loved his Dad there were times he think he forgot how capable and intelligent he was.
