R we fucking fr
I wonder when we'll be mature enough to discuss how all the pearl-clutching around Hazbin Hotel doesn't come from a very strong sense of justice and compassion for victims of SA and rape, but out of an ingrained, puritanical, christian, absolutely ridiculous belief that sex is this yucky, gross thing that should remain taboo and no one should talk about it ever.
The people who are first to accuse the show of supporting rape are the first, and loudest ones in line to say "Alastor was so sexualized this season they don't respect his asexuality" in the same tone as "What we're they wearing?" without even taking a second to think about the connection. They preach about the importance of consent and freedom but only feed into conservative ideals without realizing it just to feel better about themselves. Sex is apparently fine if it's only under the condition that no one ever engages in it or talks about it or explores the dark themes that NEED to be explored so that we understand what consent looks like and when it isn't given.
THANK YOU OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! IF I COULD PUT THIS POST WITH A BOBBY PIN TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE "FAN'S FOREHEAD"
"Fan's forehead" IS SO REAL!! They aren't fans if they're watching the show with their eyes and ears closed and their brains turned off. I just saw a comment today that went something like "Yeah, Vox can be redeemed but Valentino can't because he's a rapist and there has to be some line"
Bruh...😭😭
(Ignoring how they completely missed the point of the show itself) So murder, torture, mass fraud, slave labour and etc. etc. are fine by them!??!?! The only reason people are saying this is because they view sex as this inherently nasty, impure thing that doesn't belong in society and it's so telling!
It's why I FUCKING HATE how people treat Vox or Alastor, for that matter, compared to Valentino. They are all HORRIBLE, a cultist, a rapist and a serial killer cannibal, yet only one of them gets the hate.
And I say this as the biggest Alastor lover: he sucks. He is not a good person. He is not a victim. Same with Vox, who I adore from the bottom of my heart, HE IS A FUCKING CULTIST. He kills people for no reason. He's an abusive boss. He uses the other Vees as stepping stones.
THEY ARE NOT GOOD PEOPLE WHICH MEANS THEY WILL NOT BE A HEALTHY SHIP!
We don't even know HALF of Vox's past and I'm so sick and tired of people treating him like a dumb brokenhearted boy. Yes, Alastor rejecting him was horrible, but JESUS CHRIST NOT ALL OF US ATTEMPT TO BECOME JESUS AFTER OUR CRUSH LAUGH IN OUR FACES? At the end of the day, it was still all his choice, and fans baby him waaaayy too much just like Alastor fans do.
Yessss!!! And it's so much worse for Alastor because he's ace therefore he mustn't be exposed to sex (/s) and I've seen so many people turn on Vox because of that?!?!?! WHAT DID YOU THINK HE WAS LIKE!??!?!
Also, Alastor is a goddamn serial killer but him being a masochist and potentially being into whatever the fuck happened in that last scene is where people draw the line?!?!??! They're fine with him murdering people but it's not fine when he dares to show even the slightest interest in sexual activities (ace people can still have sex. And yes, what Vox did was awful, but these two are demon freaks who are fucked up in the head. Neither of them cares about consent)
Let's not forget this is the same reason people dogpile on Angel Dust so much. "It's horrible SA representation!" No, it's not. You just demonise anyone who could turn to sex to cope because you think sex is a bad thing. Sex isn't bad and Angel doesn't "deserve what happens to him" because he acts hypersexual, it's his fucking evil piece of shit manager who exploits and abuses him that's the problem, but no one's ready for that conversation. They care about victims of SA but ONLY if they act like they're traumatised and terrified of sex (which is a completely valid response) because they think sex is scary and wrong.
"It's bad asexual rep!" Coming from the fandom who uses the excuse, yes EXCUSE, because most (I've still seen people who respect his sexuality while writing smut scenes you included op, shoutout to my mootiew) of the people just say "asexuality is a spectrum" so they can write/draw him as allo without getting shat on; is a crazy take.
When you say that it's a spectrum, it means that there are shades of black, white, AND GREY. Asexuals can date. Asexuals can have sex without wanting romance. Asexuals can enjoy the idea of sex and some things about it but ultimately decide that that's not their cup of tea.
This fucked up idea that only asexuals/SA victims who dislike sex should be represented, while the rest should be erased cause they don't fit your standards is so disgustingly normalized, it pisses me off so much.
And the way people just start losing it when they're sexualized? When they're drawn in suggestive clothing? What, so just because I have a trauma that means I'm not allowed to feel good about myself anymore? I'm not allowed to dress how I want? Just because I don't like sex that means I can't look good? Why is this concept that if you find someone attractive, then they must like having sex, so accepted and ingrained in our society?
Asexuals don't owe you shit. SA victims don't owe you shit. You can still find them attractive and be respectful about it, but that's the thing, isn't it? When you think someone looks good then suddenly you have a "right" to be disrespectful, cause obviously
I spent the last two years being so annoyed at "Ace people can still have sex" because it was almost ALWAYS used to invalidate a sex-repulsed asexual character's orientation, but that switched in the span of a few days because of these Mormon teenagers.
Alastor is incredible asexual representation. He makes it clear that he's not really interested in sex and the line between sex and kink is so meticulously drawn with him. He's a freak AND he's asexual and those two things aren't mutually exclusive. The show so clearly depicts him as ace even while he uses his attractiveness to manipulate the shit out of Vox. He's asexual AND he's sexy. It's BEAUTIFUL representation, but it's no surprise that the same people who couldn't comprehend Angel Dust now can't comprehend Alastor.
