writing bug bit me a little bit tonight, so have a snippet of a Trigun AU that has been haunting my brain for weeks
~~~~~~~
When they were young, Vash loved bath time. Rem loved it too, enjoying the ritual of careful preening and enduring the inevitable splashing when she ran her fingers along a particularly ticklish spot along his back.
Nai always loved it most of all.
He prided himself on his wings being pristine, on his then-downy patches being carefully arranged in-line. His hair was always soft and brushed and shining with a natural luster. His claws were always neatly trimmed, filed down from their deadly points and any chips buffed out. He took his time cleaning himself, working in tandem with Rem to bring everything in order before leaving Vash to splash around and turn getting clean into a game.
After everything went wrong, after Tesla, his routine turned efficient, spartan. He stopped letting Rem help him and chose the shower stall over the tub. He cut his hair himself, keeping it cropped short so he didn’t have to take the time and effort to manage the length. He spent as little time as possible making every downy patch, every feather precise. He stopped filing down his claws, keeping them shining, but also sharp and as long as possible without them getting in the way of his daily tasks.
And then, when he was done, he folded it all away until he looked as human as either of them could.
He tried to get Vash to follow his lead, showed him how making sure everything was in line helped ease the discomfort of having it tucked away in their gates. Vash would always humor him, let his brother sit at his back, and run his fingers carefully through his feathers, working across all six wings until all his feathers were straight. And then he’d follow Nai’s careful instructions on breathing and centering and picturing to get them to hide away.
It was the only time Nai would touch him anymore.
Charm necklace of teeth, now in my Etsy (9/9/21) link in bio. The animal teeth are real, the human ones are fake.
Just FYI, most of the Others in the lake are Selkies....but not all of them. A good rule of thumb is if they glow (especially purple, especially eyes) just don't interact. Jeff from room 457 tried to steal a Glowing One's 'coat' and it got interesting painfully fast. It wasn't a coat, and they were definitely a Thing With Teeth, and trying to run off with someones tail.... welllll.... dude kinda deserved his Fate.
Proof of concept, tooth clams can also be made with oyster shells. And they are extra creepy! These two prototypes are not for sale, but if I can get more oyster shells later similar ones might be.
I've been adding eyes and teeth to things that shouldn't have eyes or teeth.
Three new tooth clams! Last batch before Christmas so if someone on your list needs one, order now.
Edit: sold out! I'll post again when there are more available.
These are... exactly what they look like. These unique sculptures are handmade from real clam shells and denture teeth, and measure about 3
