“I’m running out of time.”
Emily Dickinson // Joan Aiken // Doctor Who
It is 2025. I am staring at your house on Google maps. Clicking back the years. Scanning every frame for glimpses of you. Please, be more than a ghost inside a house. Come to the window. Let me see your face again. I am 50 feet away. The arrows only point left and right. Come to the door. Let me in. It is December. I am staring at your porch. The flowers are blooming. It is 2012.
They should invent food that doesn’t make you question
I think that next January is a long ways away but then some post will put into perspective of how short it really is. Realistically I know that I’m going to be there before I know it, but November is just about to start, and my birthday has always sneaked up on me, and December has always been short for me too, and this year it’s probably going to be even shorter since I don’t have to worry about school. So, yeah, 2022 is right there. Oh well!
HEY time is stupid
and I mean that more than I don’t like experiencing time, but that how we measure time could be better.
like a second is a standardised measurement, in that its exactly 86400th (24*60*60) of a day. If it wasn’t then the sun would rise at a different time every year, and daylight savings wouldn’t have a reverse. Thats a silly measurement tho. I vote we metricize it.
If our standard larger period of time wasn’t an hour, but 16 minutes and 40 seconds, we could refer to that as a kilosecond. Thats pretty close to the ammount of time a human can focus on something before they get distracted, or their productivity drops.
A lot of science measures things in m/s. If we changed our “hour” to a kilosecond, we’d be measuring speeds in our cars as how many kilometers we could go in a kilosecond, which is EXACTLY the same as m/s. it would become much easier to visualise these things, which would lead to easier understanding of maths and physics. (for reference, 100 miles per hour is about 44 meters per second)
I would recommend changing the second, because o/w we’d have two leap kiloseconds every 5 days, which wouldn’t be TOO bad if we changed the weeks and months too, as these measurements seem pretty arbitrary. unfortunately the earths orbit and spin don’t match up well, calls to metricise the days in the year would be dumb. cue maniacal speech to alter the earths spin just so we got exactly 400 days in a year or smth.
Well that lasted about as long as I expected.
Made no post yesterday. Almost didn’t write one today. But two weeks is not too bad. If Tumblr had a word count feature, I think I would have been more motivated to type longer in my posts. That way I would know how many words I would need to write to reach my goal.
I get why there isn’t one though. i don’t think the platform is really for training your writing and no one would use the feature. (And I do know a lot about working on unused features). And let’s face it, if I really wanted a word count, I would copy paste into a word document or something. Two extra steps isn’t exactly hard. I guess I am just entitled that way.
It is hard to write 1000 words a day about your day when you don’t do much except sleep and eat. So I suppose there are two ways to deal with that. Either stop writing 1000 words or to actually do some something in your days. Jury is out on deciding which path I am going to take this year.
The year is going by pretty fast too. Already halfway through the first month. Is this what it is like to get old? Time just blazes past you and you remember less and less? Maybe things are not quite that bleak, but it is a fear of mine. And fears do tend to magnify if you keep thinking about them. And there is a tendency to focus on bad things when thinking of things. (Or at least for me...)
Well, lets see if I can last another week. (Writing this I mean. Nothing more sinister)
Cheers,
Guy who is rush typing this before midnight...again
oh well.
