I wonder if anyone has ever done a study regarding the impact of spell checkers' dictionaries on the standardization of a particular kind of language.

The fact that Word is SO INSISTENT that an "s" cannot be added to the noun "knowledge" (even after I told it to ignore it  and added the word to my dictionary) seems telling.

Or maybe I've just been at this too long. Half the words I write in my feminist response papers are tagged as being unreal.
