#thirteen darknesses

I feel like people are a little too quick to say that we ‘know’ Vanitas is one of the original thirteen darknesses. What we know is that Xehanort suspects that Vanitas is a true darkness (as well as some potential, but not necessarily conclusive, supporting evidence).

Remember when we “”knew”” that there can’t be two Keyblade Masters?

I’m just saying, Kingdom Hearts, as a series, has historically been very careful about keeping what the characters think, know, and express very separate from what is actually true. 

It’s easily the most probable interpretation of the evidence we have, but it’s not a true thing that we know yet.

I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about the fully realized Thirteen Darknesses. So here’s what I’ve got so far.

a few things to note:

Some of the character models seem to be repeating! from left to right, 2 and 6 (and possibly 4!) seem to be the same model angled differently. The same can be said for 3 and 5, as well as 8 and 12. I’m not sure if this holds any significance more than reusing models or if there’s a reason behind this. Just an observation.

The models seem to vary more in this shot, but there is something identifiable about one of them on the end.

Not the Real Xion

So, everyone's been going nuts over the Big Hero 6 trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 for one reason in particular. The notion that Xion will be one of the thirteen Darknesses.

But I'm here to tell you that, if she does end up being one of the thirteen Darknesses, it won't be the real Xion. Merely a copy of her.

Xion, the one we know, was a Nothing created by Vexen made from Sora's memories to be a placeholder for the Keyblade Wielder in the Organization. However, when Xion became aware of herself and what Xemnas had planned for her, she staged a Do or Die fight with Roxas and allowed herself to be destroyed so that the memories she had within her could return to Roxas, and thusly Sora.

Now we find out that Xion has managed to cling to existence within Sora somehow, but that's the thing.

The Organization COULD create a new Xion to be one of the Thirteen Darknesses, but it would merely be a copy, since they don't have easy access to Sora in any form or fashion, unless they were to somehow knock Sora out and rip Xion out of him, that is.

The thing is, though, why would they even bother going to all that trouble? They could easily create their Xion double and grant a piece of Xehanort's Heart to it, giving it sentience and allowing it to serve as one of the Thirteen Darknesses.

Then again, you could probably argue that Xehanort's a theatrical old fuck and will only accept symbolically taking a piece of our hero and throwing a piece of himself inside it and tossing it at the Seven Lights.

Either way, those are my thoughts on things.

I am a firm believer (though it breaks my heart) that Sora and Terra will NOT be part of the seven warriors of light, but instead be two of the thirteen darknesses. Kairi, Riku, Mickey, Aqua, Ventus, Roxas, and Lea will have them covered.
