Upstate New York gothic

•You hear songbirds when running errands often, but when looking for the source of the sound the only birds you see are seagulls or pigeons.

•Summers are spent on rocky beaches and lakes. You wonder why you're the only one choosing to spend the dog days of summer cooling off at such a beautiful place. Though physically alone, you feel a great presence with you as you eat your picnic lunch in front of a waterfall.

•You and your friends have been regulars at a small cafe. The shop always had business, not to mention the best baked bread you've ever had. The employees know you by name. One day you go to visit to find windows dark and covered in dust. On your last look back you see a sign that reads: "Panera Bread coming soon".

•You've always been told the outskirts of town were where family farms had been upkept for generations. On an especially lazy day, you decide to take a drive to confirm your suspicions. Long-abandoned and overgrown farm houses litter the landscape between large silver warehouses. You feel uneasy.

•You've ran over a pothole that popped your tire. When pulled off on the shoulder of the road, you go back to inspect what exactly caused this misfortune. The pothole is so deep that you can't see the bottom. You choose to wait in your car until the tow truck comes.
