silly little headcannon please let me get my thoughts down:

so in Botw, Clavia gives Link a quest in Hateno Called “Secret of the Cedars”,

located on Madorna mountain; directly north of the village. Clavia sets up the quest by saying she found a letter in an old book in her house about a legend involving the mountain.

still with me? great.

if you go into any house in the village you’ll find these sugar/flour jars. the jars are Hateno’s signature blue and white colours with a logo of a three-peaked mountain range. it’s kinda hard to see, but it’s there. i think those jars are part of Hateno’s agricultural business.

it would make sense to associate the village with the mountain cedars because of its proximity and uniqueness. the odd placement of the trees is noteworthy. so noteworthy in fact, that hylians were writing folklore about it (evidence being Clavia’s letter). but that’s not all…

the tree-mountain motif isn’t just on jars; it’s design is literally EVERYWHERE in the village. painted on sheds, houses, furniture, crates, gates, pots, bowls, clothing, books, HELL EVEN THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER HAS THE LOGO ON IT.

safe to say, Hateno Village itself is associated with the Madorna mountain cedars. my guess is that this connection was made the very day that Hateno was created. the tree/mountain symbol is woven into Hateno’s very foundation which probably extended to their farming business, which is why the design on the jars is so interesting. i actually made my own Hateno jar! the hylian translates to “Secret Cedars Imports” :)

Ok... so that newest behind the scenes preview reveals some interesting things about Hvitserk’s s6a storyline for me:

IF the Valkyrie is for him (and not for Lagertha)... then it’s not the only time he’s visited by otherworldly figures, we can see him meeting another figure here:

This... I think is probably a good thing? It implies that Hvitserk’s breakdown (I don’t know how else to term it at this point) is built up to over multiple episodes. Which I know should probably be taken for granted... but I stopped doing that with this show a long time ago.

But also... what’s most interesting is that apparently the person (meaning “real life figure”) tormenting him the most is Ivar:

And this just, raises so many questions for me? Because if this storyline is going to culminate in Hvitserk killing Lagertha (which I still think it does) then why is Ivar a part of this for Hvitserk? It makes sense that Hvitserk is tormented by Ivar, since Ivar killed Thora AND MARGRETHE, but how does that tie into killing Lagertha? Especially in the teaser where Hvitserk is talking to Ubbe... all he talks about is becoming an instrument of the Gods. So why is Ivar the one he sees around every corner? What does Ivar have to do with the Gods and their “plan” for Hvitserk?

Also note, Gunnhild is the one comforting him in these scenes, which means Hvitserk isn’t rejected by Bjorn at all. He’s been welcomed back to Kattegat, even after killing Torvi’s son in s5a.

Personally, this storyline reminds me of Floki killing Athelstan. Because Floki also had a vision... but note... his vision was a lot less concrete than Hvitserk’s appears to be (actually being visited by figures and all that), Floki had to interpret the visions meaning. Which put something interesting into focus, that Floki had his own reasons for wanting Athelstan dead. That’s what gave everything a level of ambiguity, was it the Gods, was it Floki or was it both?

That same ambiguity is missing here, I mean Hvitserk is not in good shape at all, so we could interpret these visions as a kind of breakdown. So, the ambiguousness comes from... is this real or is this the result of a mental break, where Hvitserk isn’t responsible for his actions. Because honestly, nothing feels personal here, I doubt Aslaug is mentioned in this endeavor. Why would she be? It doesn’t really fit with Hvitserk breaking down over Thora, nor does it fit with his speech about being an instrument of the Gods. Maybe, I could see her being mentioned offhandedly by Ubbe, if he’s asking why Hvitserk did this... but when it comes to Hvitserk’s motivations... I don’t get how his mom would fit in at all.

Which is maybe good? Because like, why bring that back when you have spent as much time as possible forcibly ignoring it. But also... does this mean Lagertha gets killed because “whoops Hvitserk saw that the Gods decided it was her time to go.” Just because “fate” or whatever? Like, that’s it? wtf, is that?

The fresh milk sold in Hateno Village is sold in bottles labeled “Lon Lon” in Hylian. in AoC, we see the botw ranch ruins before the calamity. there’s a nearby sign pointing you there with the Hylian text “Lon Lon”.

(also note the reference of architectural similarities to OoT’s Lon Lon Ranch)

most signposts in BotW/AoC/TotK will have Hylian writing saying “left, right, info,” etc… but the one in AoC *specifically* says Lon Lon instead of a simple direction. this detail may suggest that the ranch ruins are the original source/brand of these milk bottles.

the day of the calamity, the ranch would have no chance of shelter due to its proximity to Hyrule Castle. everything was burned down from Guardian and the following years dubbed the “Age of Burning Fields”. everything inside would be buried under rubble for 100-ish years this includes dried goods, grains, pottery, and most significantly; the milk bottles.

L) pre-calamity // R) 100~ years post-calamity

years later, few seasoned travellers/treasure hunters/collectors now scavenge through the ranch ruins, specifically looking for these Lon Lon milk bottles. once found they are bought by the Hateno general store and re-used to bottle milk.

i also imagine that pre-calamity, Lon Lon Ranch had Hateno Village carry their product, so it could reach more consumers. it also just makes sense considering Hateno Village is mostly agricultural.

it’s unfortunate that the Lon Lon brand seems mostly forgotten in BotW/TotK, but it’s reassuring that some history still exists. and maybe these artifacts from a thriving era of Hyrule can be used to re-found the Lon Lon brand. this is a strong possibility considering the whole cheese re-discovery of TotK. as long as we have the history, we can re-build the past.

Goddess Pilgrimage -Totk Headcannon

some of link’s early training involved escorting travellers through Tanagar Canyon on a pilgrimage to the forgotten temple.

[actual evidence of pilgrimage routes is cannon from two sources. one being the fallen goddess statue quest where the statue explicitly tells link to make a pilgrimage through Tanagar Canyon, and the other being the ruins of a prairie schooner wagon found in the Canyon directly north of Lake Illumini]. just a fun little theory i had :)

Bolson totk headcannon

i think the reason Bolson doesn’t remember Link is because they probably see each other every other day. Since the events of BOTW, Bolson (along with Hudson, Rhodson, and Karson) were probably connected closely with Zelda when she started the Hyrule restoration project.

seeing a co-worker/friend every day for indefinite periods of time wouldn’t warrant a big greeting. they both know what the situation is, and probably don’t have time for small talk. imagine seeing your close co-worker everyday and saying “oh i remember you!”. it just isn’t necessary. either way, love you Bolson. never stop slaying ❤️

edit: this still doesn’t explain why Bolson never said hi after Link’s disappearance in the upheaval. i think that’s just for game reasons tho

@silaluke thank you! this is my favourite comment/tag by far! the designs of their outfits in my post are heavily influenced by hylian designs. the fashion style likely came from either castle town or hateno village. the style is popular, even 100 years after the calamity.

in “Creating a Champion”, it mentions that lots of ruins and stuff haven’t been rebuilt because all the stonemasons and woodworkers likely died in castles town on that horrible day.

this is interesting because of all elements of Hylian culture, clothing would be one thing very likely to survive the calamity. architecture you can’t take with you, it stays where it stands. unlike clothing, which you wear everywhere.

it’s likely that 99% of Hylians would wear these sorts of clothes on the day of the calamity; so it would be easier to document and remake after they found refuge in Kakariko or Hateno. and we know this because it has survived up to present day!
