“You’ve been doing this for too long,” Leon replied with a soft sigh, not about to go on the whole ‘I told you so’ conversation because he was too damn tired for that. It didn’t matter if he’d told her she’d wind up that way eventually. He got no satisfaction from it.

He wasn’t going to waste his breath telling her that she still had time to get out either. There was no point.

“I wish I could tell you that it gets better but it doesn’t. I wish I could tell you that it gets easier to bear but it doesn’t. You just get better at burying it beneath the alcohol and pretending that you’re fine when you’re not.”
