A Clarke and Lexa Christmas
Snow fell silently onto the sidewalk as Lexa walked home from work. Green wreaths hung from the street lamps with red bows falling down from the bottom. Clear white lights wrapped around a house next to her. A giant blow up Santa stood in the yard complete with all 8 reindeer leading his sleigh. Lexa shook her head at the sight and chuckled softly.
Growing up, Christmas was never a big holiday for what was left of the Woods family. After losing her parents, Lexa grew up with her older sister Anya in a group home. Christmas was something she’d come to dread. The holiday season always reminded her of how much she missed out on as a kid.
Lexa turned the corner and walked through the gate into her apartment complex. Hers was the last one on the right, a quaint little thing on the second floor. She fumbled for her keys at the top of the landing and reached for the doorknob, but it turned without even a slight hesitation. Lexa was sure she’s locked it before she left. She shook her head and shrugged. Maybe she was losing it.
“What the hell?” Lexa gasped as she entered the room.
Someone had snuck into her tiny apartment and covered it top to bottom in decorations. Garland hung across the walls, white candles were lit in every corner. A trail of pine needles led from the doorway to the middle of the window where a tree stood. Lexa was sure it was at least 10 foot tall, the tip of the tree was bent over against the ceiling curiously.
“I wasn’t sure how tall your ceilings were, but I saw this one and knew it was the one!” A familiar voice said gently as Clarke rounded the corner from the hallway. Lexa noticed she was wearing a dark green sweater that was much too long for her with a pair of black leggings underneath and a bright red Santa hat on her head. Lexa took in the adorable sight rather confused as to how she was even in her apartment when she was supposed to be at school.
“What is all of this?” Lexa asked looking around at he room. Lights were wrapped around everything, over the bookshelves and around her tv, and there were reindeer cut outs on the walls shining against the lights.
“What do you think?” Clarke asked biting her lip nervously. She knew of Lexa’s indifference to Christmas, but wanted to give her everything she didn’t get to have. She just hoped the gorgeous brown haired girl wouldn’t be upset with her for trying.
Lexa slowly spun around the room noticing more things every where that she looked. She came full circle and met Clarke’s eyes.
Clarke could see tears forming against the emerald forests.
“Oh baby.. I’m sorry..” Clarke said rushing over to wrap her arms around Lexa.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so dumb. This was a terrible idea. I’m so sorry baby.” Clarke said as she buried her face into Lexa’s hair.
Lexa pulled away and cupped Clarke’s face. Clarke was astonished to see a huge smile spread wide across her beautiful girlfriend’s face. Small tears had dropped down her cheeks, but happiness was clear as day in her eyes.
“It’s perfect Clarke. Absolutely perfect.” Lexa said happily. She kissed Clarke’s forehead and pulled her tightly against her. “How did you do all of this?”
“Christmas magic.” Clarke giggled, ecstatic that her love was happy with the surprise.
“But it’s not perfect yet Lex. We still have to decorate the tree!” Clarke said before dashing away into the bedroom. She came back out seconds later with an armload of boxes.
“Ornaments! I couldn’t decide what colors you’d like, so I just got a bunch!” Lexa laughed and pulled Clarke back into her arms. Their lips met softly and Clarke smiled into the kiss. Kissing Lexa was her favorite thing. She so loved making the strong, tough girl soft for her.
“This is the first one to put on.”Clarke took Lexa’s hand and placed a small wrapped package in it.
Slowly Lexa peeled back the wrapping paper and saw a white orb. Seemingly ordinary, she picked it up and spun it by the hook at the top. The back of it was solid white but when it spun to the front, Lexa gasped. “Our First Christmas, Together” was spelled out in green font.
“Clarke! You’re so amazing.” Lexa said happily pulling the gorgeous girl back in for another kiss.
“Put it on the tree?” Her bright blue eyes shown in the soft light from the tree. Lexa knew in that moment that she would do anything for this girl standing in front of her. She would cross mountains and stop time itself. She was absolutely in love with Clarke, beyond all reason.
Lexa placed the ornament in the middle of the tree, after Clarke taught her the correct way to put the ornament hook on it, and how to make sure it didn’t fall off the tree by bending the branch up slightly.
Clarke played some Christmas music on her phone and the two happily continued to decorate the tree. Cookies were apparently baking in the oven Lexa wasn’t even sure worked until Clarke carried a huge stack of sugar cookies out. The pair danced and sung together obnoxiously, putting all of the ornaments onto the tree and stuffing their mouths full of cookie bits.
Once the final ornament was hung, Clarke stepped back to have a look at their handiwork. She cocked her head and laughed. The sight was one they wouldn’t soon forget. While Clarke had been hanging the ornaments all over seemingly randomly, Lexa has hers in almost perfectly straight lines color coded around the tree.
“We’ll have to work on that for next year baby.“ Clarke said, wrapping her arms around Lexa’s shoulders from behind, reaching around to kiss her on the cheek. Lexa smiled at their jumble of a tree and sighed to herself happily. She thought it was perfect, simply because it was Clarke who decorated it with her. She kissed Clarke’s hands before unraveling herself and picking up Clarke over her shoulder. The blonde giggled and tried to escape Lexa’s grasp, but only succeeded in making Lexa tickle her sides, causing her to laugh even more. Lexa plopped her down on the couch and grabbed a blanket before sitting next to her and wrapping it around the both of them. They sat there looking at the lights and the mess of ornaments with Clarke’s head on her shoulder and their fingers intertwined.
“Hey, did you put that there?” Clarke said, pointing vaguely at the tree after a few minutes.
Lexa had no idea what she was referring to so just shrugged her shoulders and kissed her girlfriends cheek. “If I did, and it looks terrible, it’s your fault”. She smiled at Clarke.
“No baby, that!”
Clarke got up and tugged Lexa back to the tree and pointed at a small box near the top of the tree.
“What? I didn’t even know we had boxes. Do people normally put boxes on the tree? I only put on the circle ones.”
Lexa reached up and took he box in her hand. It was small and black. Smaller than her palm. She turned it over curiously before opening it. Inside sat a stunning 3 stoned ring.
“Clarke..? What is- “ she broke off, turning around to find Clarke bent down on one knee.
“Lexa, I know we haven’t been together for very long, and I know we’re young. But ever since I met you, I knew you were the one. I knew you were my soul mate and that somehow we were meant to be together. Ever since I first looked into your eyes... I knew I wanted to spend forever by your side. Life became so much more when I met you, and I can’t imagine a day without you. So Lex, my love, will you-“.
Lexa cut her off falling onto her and wrapping her arms around the kneeling girl. “Yes babe, yes, yes of course!” She shouted laughing as they almost toppled to the floor.
“You didn’t even let me finish asking!” Clarke replied giggling along with her.
Lexa sat back looking at her in awe, waiting for the next few words.
Clarke chuckled again before taking a deep breath.
“Lexa, will you marry me?”
Lexa felt the tears well up again. She was definitely not a crier, but something about this girl made her so weak. She nodded her head vigorously and pulled Clarke back into her arms. Clarke covered Lexa’s face in soft kisses as they sat there holding each other in complete bliss, under the light of their very first Christmas tree together, with so many more now shining on the horizon.
