Insecure Puppy (Werewolf Mate)
Summary: Your werewolf is feeling like he isn't worthy of your affections and comes out to you about his past. So you comfort him.
The hulking beast sat on the sofa as he waited for you to arrive home. He hunched forward with his elbows placed on his knees. His long fluffy tail flicked in impatience as his golden eyes looked around the room. The fire crackled as it danced in the fireplace. His wolf ears perked as he heard the click of the front door opening. His tail wagged as he saw you entering the house.
You stepped into the cozy house and sighed as you shrugged off your jacket. You set your wallet/purse down and your eyes landed on Bardulf. You smiled warmly and walked towards him. "Hello, darling."
Bardulf's ears flatten at your voice as he stood to his full height. While he towered above you by more than a few feet, there was a small hint of timidity in his yellow eyes. The large werewolf shifted uncomfortably to the side as he looked at you. The tail wagged slowly as his ears slightly tilted forward.
"Hello, Y/n..." He whispered quietly. Though his voice was deep and rugged, it was soft, in a sad tone. He cleared his throat as he tried to sound more confident. "...How was your day?"
You instantly noticed his saddened expression and his slow movements. Your eyes softened and she reached up to caress his snout and cheek. "Bardulf? Is everything alright?"
Bardulf froze at your touch as his ears flattened and then perked up as he leaned into your hand. He looked down at your slender fingers as you gently touched his face. The corners of his mouth quirked into a small smile as he looked into your eyes. He took a deep breath and then sighed as he took your hand.
"It's nothing, my love." He whispered softly, trying to reassure you. "It has just been a long day for me..."
You gently squeezed his clawed fingers and held his large paw in your hands. You looked up at him with concern. "Are you sure? You can tell me anything ya know."
At the question, Bardulf averted his gaze as he scratched the back of his head. He took another deep breath and sighed as he lowered his head. The werewolf looked troubled as he struggled to tell you the reason for his troubles.
"I-I feel conflicted about my past..." He quietly whispered, his body quivered. "...Should I tell you everything?"
You only smiled softly and ran your thumb over the back of his hand. "Only you can decide that, love. If you are ready, I am here to listen, comfort, and support you. But if you are not ready, then that's alright too. Whenever you're ready."
Bardulf sighed as he leaned his head to the side, his ears flicked slightly as he tried to think about where to start. He looked away from your kind soul as his eyes focused on a spot on the wall. After a few seconds to gather his thoughts, he looked back at you and nodded his head.
"Yes... I'm ready to tell you everything. You already mean so much to me, and I would feel guilty to deprive you of this sensitive part of me..." He slowly replied, "...So, do you want to hear it now?"
You nodded and sat down on the couch near the both of you. You smiled and patted the cushion beside you. "I have all evening."
Bardulf slowly sat down on the seat as his ears perked up a bit. He was reluctant to start telling his story as your patience and sympathy gave him a sense of peace. He took another deep breath as he cleared his throat.
"Before I start, I must warn you. The events I am going to describe are very disturbing. A lot of it is... violent..." He whispered softly, his voice quivered as he thought of the memories. "...Are you still sure you want to hear it?"
You nodded and placed your hand on top of his. "Yes, I'm sure. Go on..."
Bardulf held your hand as he swallowed the lump in his throat. He closed his eyes and cleared his throat. Taking a deep breath, he began to tell his story while taking breaks in his speech. The werewolf spoke softly as his tail flicked slowly.
"I grew up in a small village in the woods. Life was harsh, and my home life wasn't any better. I... I was abused by my father. And my mother... she did nothing, she... she always said it was normal. So- I ran away. I-I left the village and traveled across the forest."
You sat and listened to him as he explained. Nodding every once and a while to show you were listening.
Bardulf continued, his tail flicking as he spoke.
"I lived in the woods for a while. I survived by hunting animals, drinking river water, and staying out of sight. It was very lonely and often times, I would become afraid of the silence..." His voice trembled as he looked down and bit his lower lip to steady himself.
"...O-Once... I was attacked by a pack of wolves. They... they attacked me, biting and cutting me with their claws... The pain was so... so unbearable..."
"And so you contracted lycanthropy... Turning you into the werewolf you are now."
As you mentioned that, Bardulf nodded sadly as his gaze lingered on the ground.
"Y-Yes... I... I contracted lycanthropy... My body... It became stronger and my senses hightened... But I was no longer human..." He whispered softly, looking up at you as his yellow eyes glistened with moisture. He looked at you with a sad and tortured expression. "...I did not want to be an 'abomination' as everyone called me... I was hated, looked down upon, and even attacked..." He added mournfully.
Your eyes became saddened for him and you scooted closer to him. "Oh. baby... You poor thing... I'm sorry that happened to you."
Bardulf took a deep breath and wiped his tears away. His body shook a little as the painful memories slowly faded. He looked at you and slowly smiled. In the presence of your kind heart, the werewolf felt safe and protected. He leaned forward and rested his head in your lap as his soft breaths escaped his lips.
"I love you... and I trust you with all my heart, Y/n... Thank you for listening to me... Just knowing you are here, is enough for me..." He whispered to you with tears streaming down his cheeks.
You smiled lovingly and pet his black fur. Your fingers coursed through his fur as you hummed softly. "I love you too."
As you caressed his thick fur, Bardulf's heart melted with joy and affection. He looked up into your eyes as his tail wagged. The large beast was happy whenever you were near him. You made him feel safe, protected, and most importantly, loved.
"Can we spend some time together right now?" He quietly whispered with a soft smile. "The thought of being with you brings me warmth..." He added softly. "It takes away all of my fears and worries... You make me feel whole..."
You chuckled and nodded your head. "Of course we can."
Bardulf smiled softly as his tail wagged faster. His ears perked up as he moved closer to you, the large werewolf snuggling close to you and pressing his head into the crook of your neck like a large dog would do. His warm body rested close to yours as he closed his eyes and sighed softly.
"I love you, mate. I truly do..." He whispered in a small voice, his chest filled with your warmth.
You knew he liked the back of his ears scratched so you indulged him. You stroked his hairy back and kissed his head every now and then. You held him tightly, at least as tight as you could with a werewolf, and kissed the top of his head.
The werewolf's whole body became relaxed at the touch of your soft hands. He enjoyed the feeling of your warm embrace as your lips touched his forehead. It was a small sign of affection, but to Bardulf, it was like a beacon of light that kept him going. He closed his eyes slowly as his breathing gradually slowed down. The beast rested his head on your shoulder and stayed quiet for a while while you cuddled him.
You sighed. "That's my good boy."
His nostrils flared as you called him that, his wolf ears perking up in his surprise. With a soft smile, he looked up at you with his yellow eyes. They resembled the eyes of a faithful companion that was loyal and loving.
"I'm... your 'good boy'?" He softly asked as his tail began to wag faster. His sharp teeth showed a small sign of happiness as he licked his lips.
"Mhm." You cupped his cheeks and stared into his piercing eyes. "You're my good boy."
Bardulf smiled softly as you cupped his face. He felt your soft hands touch his fluffy cheekbones.
"I've never been called that before..." He whispered quietly as the corners of his mouth slightly curved into a warm smile. "But if you believe so... then, I shall abide by this 'nickname'" He chuckled softly as his tail wagged even faster. The large werewolf gently nuzzled your hand as he brought it to his lips. "I truly am your 'good boy'..."
