sunmi was beyond excited. relay dances, when done and planned well, come out really really good. impressive enough that they go viral. she was hoping that this comeback they would pick up more with popularity. she thinks that their choreography could be translated well into the relay style. she was already buzzing with ideas.

“i’m really happy we’re doing relay for this dance and not pepe,” sunmi says with a wistful sigh. “the pepe choreography would have been really boring to do the relay. at least this dance has a lot more key points and textures to it so that it’s really dynamic.” the point of a dance relay was to make sure that the watchers were engaged with the dance itself. so they had to dance their best.

“we also have to figure out the order.” sunmi said. it would have to be planned because certain people would end up with parts that they’re probably not used to being centre for. “when do you want to go?”

sunmi was sure to bow to every staff member when they arrived to the recording studio. she knows with juhee and herself being the only ones here today it meant that they had to do a good job and find interesting topics to talk about. and to make sure that while they elaborate what’s on the script, they don’t venture too far from what they’re supposed to be talking about.

“are you ready?” she asks juhee, whom she would now have to refer to as sora for the duration of the interview. it’s like an on switch. once they’re in their professional environment, sunmi’s demeanour changes slightly. just enough of a mask to keep her in good graces. “come,” she gestures for juhee to sit in a seat that’s not too far from her but gives her her own camera to focus on her.

sunmi is very aware that juhee is new to all this. despite being an adult and more than capable, she’s heard the younger’s fears about her debut. so in attempt to be more mindful, sunmi is trying to look out for her more often than she would for say meiqi or wendy. “is it comfortable? do you need help adjusting the microphone?”

somin hasn’t texted.

it’s strange. she just hasn’t been texting at her usual capacity recently. by recently, it’s been a couple of months. she just won’t text and when sunmi does reach out, she takes several hours to respond and it’s usually a response that comes off as curt. at first, sunmi just figured somin was a little busy. maybe she was bothering her while she was working on stuff. maybe she was doing some choreography, taking classes. who knows.

( sunmi wouldn’t because her wife wasn’t messaging her back. )

feeling that she was busy, she didn’t even bother with phone calls. why would she call if somin didn’t even feel up for texts? it was also hard to keep up with her especially when comeback season had kicked back up. soon, sunmi couldn’t even keep track for the last time she messaged her fiancee or vice versa. but with her comeback date announced, she knew she wouldn’t have much time to dedicate to their talks. it’s already been over a month since they last had a conversation.

so this time, she attempted to reach out again.

she left it simple in hopes that her girlfriend would give her an extended response. something longer than a handful of words. sunmi wanted that much. she was starting to get worried. was somin mad at her? did she mess up? sunmi didn’t forget anything important. both of their birthdays hadn’t passed yet and sunmi remembered both anniversaries. so what could it be?

✧ mannequin challenge ;

at first, sunmi truly questioned why make them learn their intro song days before their comeback. but once they were in the practise room and they were taught their “dance”, understood. there wasn’t much to fucking learn in the first place. this has to be a fucking joke. it doesn’t even follow a concept. are they supposed to be dolls? the lyrics didn’t allude to anything like that. and it doesn’t match their song cushion.

she hates this.

it really makes her not was to perform or even practise this. it has to be a joke, it’s an insult to who they were and their company. “i can’t believe nova is known for their dancing and they’re doing everything in their power to make sure we barely move every release so far,” sunmi says bitterly to meiqi, whom she knows already who is equally pissed about this. “eventually they’re going to replace us with mannequins at some point to make sure we don’t move an inch. because this is ridiculous.”

she can’t do this for a week. it’s embarrassing. “a two year old can do something better than this.” one of these times she’s going to snap. she can’t keep being embarrassed like this. “how are we supposed to represent the company and be considered the same level as other artists here if they keep making us do embarrassing stuff like this.” sunmi can’t continue hating her releases like this. it makes her feel like a fraud every time they have to interview and say how great this song and concept was. the truth was she hated it.

huidong was no stranger to the things that were happening with and*roma. she kept him regularly updated with everything and always updated him with how the girls were doing, how everyone was getting along. and he reciprocated the same courtesy with the per_se boys. it’s hard to “parent” separately now but they always take time to touch base.

“can we go out to eat? i’m really hungry,” she says with frown. “and i’m tired of eating in the cafeteria.” they were idols now. they could be ferried anywhere they wanted by their managers. she digs into her pocket. “besides i can’t give you your tickets to showcase in front of everyone. they’d be jealous!” sunmi smiles as she whips out the ticket for him. it’s nothing monumental. it was just a showcase. but it’d be nice to have him there.

“haknyeon is coming too so sadly you have to babysit,” sunmi teases, nudging his side. “but uh, it’ll be nice, right? you get to meet the new girls.”
