One of the downsides in living where I do is that whenever I try to research local folklore or stories I've heard, I'm always met with the problem of those "cryptid researchers" or whatever or even wikipedia just insisting on vaguely throwing around "African" and different sources assigning the same creature to completely different, sometimes even unrelated origins. Literally the barest minimum effort cause the idea is "It's all the same anyways" (because as we all know, Egypt is the exact same as Angola/s). Everything "African" is just a mushy grey paste. Meanwhile if you're in a place like the US chances are you'll piss off the folklore fans for mixing up which state x crypid is in. Yk?
