He calls her “Sunflower”. It’s become one of the sweetest things she’d ever heard. “My Sunflower” it echoed in her mind as the memory of him filled her to the brim. The way it felt when he touched her. His hands were rough, but his movements were gentle as he rubbed the outside of her thighs, up to her hips an held them there. She was straddling his lap, she couldn’t remember why she’d done it, but it felt like the best option, and looking down at him now, she could confirm that she regretted nothing about it, only that she’d waited so long to do it. She reached out to touch his face, rubbing her thumbs across his cheeks, her eyes scanning his features. Her gaze lingered on his lips and she couldn’t stop herself from running her fingers across them. His laugh brought her back to reality and she couldn’t stop herself from blushing.
“Sorry! Sorry!” She hid her face behind her hands. “Why are you sorry?” his voice was playful, and she could hear the laughter in his words, causing her to groan a little, exasperated. “For being weird.” She grumbled. “You’re not being weird.” “But you laughed.” “Because it was cute.” He laughed again, making her bury her face in his shirt she was wearing, from the growing knot of embarrassment in her stomach. “Hey” he pulled the shirt from over her face and she quickly replaced it with her hands. “Rai” he gently removed her hands from in front of her face, and she still wouldn’t look at him. “Please look at me” she sighed softly as she flicked her eyes up to meet his. “don’t be embarrassed, it was cute.” She couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes “You think everything is cute” his smile grew “If it’s from you I do.” She couldn’t stop herself from smiling. He didn’t smile often, but when he did, she could live in it. He was still holding her hands, and he brought them back to his face and before she thought about it, she squeezed them, earning another laugh from him, it was more of a chuckle truthfully, either way, it was one of her favorite sounds. His hands found their way back to her waist and he held her tightly as he adjusted their position so his back was resting on the headboard and she could look at him without looking down. She couldn’t help feeling even more flustered. “Hi” her voice was softer than she intended it to be, almost a whisper, it made him smirk. “Hi” he echoed. With her heartbeat in her ears, she bit her bottom lip nervously, scanning his face before meeting his eyes again.
He moved a stray braid from in front of her face and pushed it behind her ear, which made her heart hitch in her throat. He leaned forward and kissed her shoulder, and then the crook of her neck, under her chin, to her jaw, and behind her ear, leaving her skin hot and tingly where his lips were. “You’re so beautiful” his voice sent electricity through her body, and he gripped her tighter, pulling her closer to him. He leaned his forehead against hers, he watches her reactions as he moves his hands lower again. “Is this okay?” she nods breathlessly, and fights the urge to look away, wanting to enjoy the intimate moment. His hands caress the soft brown skin of her thighs as warmth and excitement bubble in her stomach. He lifts her thighs lightly and wraps them around his waist, she adjusts accordingly so she’s sitting more comfortably, her legs wrapped loosely, hooked at her ankles. Her heart is pounding in her chest and she’s sure he can hear it, or at the very least feel it, because he asks, “Are you okay?” his voice was gentle, and his eyes sincere as they met hers again. She nods. “I need to hear you say it. ““I’m okay” “Good” his hands float across her skin, up her thighs and below the shirt that bellows around her waist, moving a little higher. “Is this okay? Tell me if, and when you want me to stop” his fingers grazing her bare skin was almost mind numbing, but the knot in her stomach tightened. “stop” it came out like a squeak, and his hands froze. He nods and rests them on the small of her back. “okay” he smiles softly.
It was painfully silent and neither of them knew how to break it, or if they even wanted to. She wanted to touch him, but every movement just seemed wrong, and she just ended up twiddling her thumbs in her lap between them nervously. He leaned back a bit and watched her play with her thumbs, she glanced up a little startled by the sudden movement. “What?” is came out soft, almost child-like. He smiles “Nothing” her eyebrows knit together. “Then why’d you lean away?” he lifts an eyebrow. “Oh? Do you want me to be closer?” her cheeks flushed red. “Uh…uhm, I mean… kinda” her eyes timidly shifting down to her finger again, he chuckled and leaned close to her again. “You’re so cute” this earned him a small grumble. “What was that?” “I’m not cute” “Who lied to you?” she rolled her eyes and fought, unsuccessfully, to hide the smirk that tugged at her lips. He rested his forehead on hers again, looking at her, though she wasn’t looking at him. Her heart races in her chest again in anticipation. He tilts her chin up with his pointer and middle fingers and kisses her softly. She can feel the fireworks exploding from her core up to her head. ‘Finally! Finally! Finally!’
She squeaks a little in surprise and stiffens a little. He pulls back and studies her face. “Are you okay?” She nods in response and he tilts his head. “Rai- ““Yes, yes I’m okay.” She continues to nod, not breaking eye contact. “You want me to stop?” she shakes her head “No” and with a sudden surge of confidence, she lifts a shaky hand to the space behind his neck and leans forward, pressing her lips to his again. His hands find the small of her back again and pulls her close to his chest. Now she can feel his heart beating in his chest too almost in time with hers, like a symphony of wild emotion. The kiss was far from graceful, but it was so passionately charged that neither of them cared. He took control of the kiss and she let him, following his lead. She relaxes under his touch, becoming more comfortable with his rhythm. She still didn’t know what to do with her hands, so she wrapped her arms around his shoulders like she’d read in her favorite books and stories. Everyone did it, so it must be right, right? Wrong. Her arms sat uncomfortably on his shoulders with their closeness, so she tried to discretely to move them to a more comfortable resting position. He chuckled a little against her lips and she pulled back, letting her head fall back and covering her face. “Ugggh! I’m sorry” he shakes his head and chuckles again. “Stop being sorry. It’s okay” he grabs her hands in his and pulls them away from her face, holding them firmly in his. “Do you want to stop?” she sighs again “No” she whines and rolls her eyes at herself. “I just don’t know what to do with my hands.” She emphasizes her statement by lifting their joined hands and shaking them dramatically. “You’re thinking too hard about it.” He kisses her hands and places them softly on the space between his neck and his shoulders. “Just relax” she lets her fingers relax and find a comfortable resting place where he’d placed them and nods, more to herself than to him. “You okay?” she lets out a long sigh and smiles up at him. “Yea, I’m okay.” “Should I continue?” “You don’t have to ask every time y’know?” she tilts her head. “But I do.” “Why is that?” she lifts an eyebrow curiously. “Because, this is about making sure you’re comfortable and okay with everything that’s going on. You should enjoy it too.” His response released a pressure that she didn’t even know was building up in her chest. And she smiles gratefully. “Can I kiss you?” the momentary confidence was back, though you could barely tell with how soft her voice was. “Yes, you may.” He smiled at her, her favorite smile, and she gave him a small peck on the lips, which he returned with one of his own. She couldn’t stop herself from giggling softly. He touched her face softly before leaning in again. “I love you” his voice was soft, and she could feel the sincerity. “I love you too” she breathed softly against his lips. Their hearts were racing again. He let out a small laugh, something close to a chuckle but it stopped as soon as it started, and it made her giggle softly. He lifted her chin and kissed hear again.
She calls him “Sunshine”. “My Sunshine” almost a like it’s secret as she whispers it against his lips. “Sunflower” he echoes back. “My Sunflower.”
In Dear Evan Hansen the line "when you've fallen in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound" alludes to Evan's attempted suicide, but what if the line "he'll be obsessed with all my forest expertise" in the song Sincerely Me doesn't allude to Evan's apparent forestry knowledge as I originally thought, but is instead an ironic or cynical advice offer from the first boy to try and the one who succeeded
