Lilly confronting Sammy on what went down over the last few episodes was so satisfying on a level I didn’t really think about until it happened. I honestly didn’t think that the sexism Sammy displayed would be addressed at all because he’s one of the main protagonists of the show and is also a minority, so it would be expected that he could do no wrong. And although it made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t think it would be addressed fully (if at all) I carried on listening because usually kfam is incredible at calling out this kind of behaviour.
BUT I DID NOT EXPECT THIS not only did they FULLY call out Sammy on his behaviour they also addressed victim shaming and Chet’s skeeziness. They had Lily RIP SAMMY A NEW ONE FOR SEVEN MINUTES and he didn’t immediately do a 180 and apologise and change his ways, he got defensive and denied it, but Lily stood her ground and wouldn’t give him an inch. And by then end of it Sammy began to come to terms with his behaviour and actually reflect on his actions. He wasn’t ‘cancelled’ he was given the room to evaluate and grow. AND THAT IS SO REFRESHING!
This episode was so viscerally satisfying because I did not expect it to go down like this, with these issues so often swept under the rug. And for a character to have such a flaw and have it addressed wholly and still be loved and accepted is so important for growth and improvement.
