I made a Bucky playlist

I spent way, way, way too much time on this. I considered lyrics and overall sound equally when choosing what to include, but also tried to make sure there was some variety.

Holy Wars - Deus Ex Machina

this song is badass and also includes the lyric "my mouth forced open as they feed me plastic" so. obviously. it's perfect.

I Prevail - Synthetic Soul

It's kind of self-explanatory, and its a pretty good song

Nine Inch Nails - Mr. Self Destruct

okay this song is one of my favorite NIN songs and the source of the title of my fanfic "i am an exit" and i have to explain a little bit why it's a Bucky song to me.

In the song, the speaker, "mr. self destruct" is the voice of the needs and urges within people that lead them to annihilate themselves. But Mr. Self Destruct is not just a thing within your head, he permeates society. This made a spark in my head with how I wanted to portray the idea of the Winter Soldier: as a cold, nihilistic Grim Reaper figure that enforces Hydra's authoritarian, fascist vision of the world. The Soldier is Death and its meaninglessness. so i thought this song had interesting chemistry with that concept

Haken- The Good Doctor

not just A Bucky song, but possibly The Bucky song. it's a prisoner being tortured with electroshock therapy until he loses his sense of who he is and its a GREAT SONG

Matt Maeson- The Hearse

there are several lyrics I could quote from this one but continuing the grim reaper imagery

I imagine this song about Bucky trying to escape from Hydra but as he's on the run he starts to remember all the people he's killed and realize he's not safe anywhere

clipping. - Enlacing

You so gone It's all gone And it's long overdue You got nothing to prove You are nothing, you know

to me this is the Hydra Trash Party song. it's delirious, dissociating, oozing, poison. It's hard to explain why with the lyrics alone. clipping. does a lot of really brilliant things creating a narrative with both lyrics and sound and you really just have to experience it.

This song creates an oppressive atmosphere that really captures the horror of being rebuilt into something terrible

HEALTH - You Died

You're dead I'll be like you You'll be like me I'll be dead too

more of a stucky song to me than Bucky in particular but i think it continues the undead theme nicely

Front Line Assembly - Echogenetic

Honestly I include this band for the industrial sound more so than the lyrics, but this song I especially felt was a good fit

The Amity Affliction- Not Without My Ghosts

Their bodies drag behind me Chained to both my wrists No matter how I fight I'm never done with it

This is a wonderfully poignant song about carrying trauma with you and accepting that it will always be a part of you, which can also be read more literally as a song about accepting that you will always be haunted by the people you killed

SWARM- Who Will Save You Now

Your love is cold and empty And it is all I need I know I'm just a role to play and that's okay with me Just let me watch, I'll sit right here (I promise I will behave) When the lights are going out I close my eyes and beg

Bucky brainwashed to think he isn't a person and to crave the "love" of his tormentors

Black Magnet- Hermetix

Open my body Inside nothing is pure Open my skull What’s inside is yours

All the lyrics fit beautifully in different ways and there's tons of inspiration in terms of Bucky's character, but the sound is integral to the interpretation too. Like it talks about sawing off limbs, but it also sounds like a power saw.

Nine Inch Nails- Came Back Haunted

Now I got something you have to see They put something inside of me Its smile is red and its eyes are black (black, black, black, black, black, black, black, black, black) I don't think I'll be coming back

I think it's clear how this one fits but especially in my interpretation of Bucky as Coming Back Wrong

ill peach- head full of holes

All these memories are burning embers Leave them alive or leave them alone Got a head full of holes

makes me think of Bucky trying to figure out what he felt about Steve in the past and whether they were lovers or not

Pop Evil- What Remains

I never meant to hurt you Violence, my only virtue I lived in silence Now darkness, it consumes me

once again, the connections are clear, and there are a lot of connections you could interpret in depending on your take on the story as well

I have a bunch of others but those are my top choices so far
