He didn’t know why she was crying, but it broke his heart seeing her so upset. It was odd -- one moment he had just finished a fun and light conversation with his sister, and the next, Syn’s at his door. Zan didn’t mean to push it by asking, but he had to ask what was wrong. Part of him regretted asking, but the other part was glad that he did.

Wrapping his arms around the smaller girl, he walked her over to the couch, pulling her into his arms. They didn’t need to speak. Surprisingly, he was good at not speaking for a while. His thumbs gently moved along her arm, hugging her in silence. He’d occasionally whisper “It’s okay” to her, just to see if he would get a response. Even if he didn’t, it was okay.

Just as long as he could make sure she was okay.
