marvel writers pitching their newest “no more mutants” story arc rn:
“ITS HOUSE OF M.....2!”
[during the "carry your partner" portion of a race]
CIRO: [carries Noemi bridal-style, jogs a little and talks calmly with her]
RAFAEL: *sprints past, carries Rhys over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes; they’re both screaming]
How much money
do you think it would take to convince Marvel to bring back Captain Mar-Vell? No not Captain Marvel, but the Kree soldier she got her name from?
In Avengers: Earth’s Mightest Heroes was the first place I encountered him and honestly the only media since the older Captain Marvel comics where he’s depicted at all that I’ve found. In this, he was a nerdy science officer xenobiologist (dude who studies alien biology) who was sent to “appraise” Earth’s population for Kree invasion. He helped beat back the first strike of the Empire because it almost killed the human assigned to protect him (in disguise as a human scientist) - Carol Danvers, who he’d grown to care for and value. Then he tried to convince the Empire Earth wasn’t worth taking, since he didn’t believe they could really be fought. Then that humanity was worth enslaving rather than destroying because at least please let them live. He was captured by the Avengers with the rest of the Kree invasion force (he’d been brought along to watch the planet fall, since he’d fought so hard against it). Then, when the Avengers had the dumbest plan in the entire series to fight the Kree but didn’t have the Kree knowledge to do it? They dragged Mar-Vell out and he was like “That might actually work let me help” and then he did.
Long story short, this nerdy science officer did everything he could to stop his own people from taking Earth in any manner, even going so far as to help the Avengers kill the closest thing his species has to a god. And then he took over the Empire to try and improve it! Granted, the semi-sequel series, Avengers Assemble, heavily implies he was quickly overthrown and banished because putting a science officer in charge of a hot blooded military race was a bad idea, the sentiment was there.
Another spoiler for how that turned out? The Guardians of the Galaxy made a guest appearance in one episode. One of their members, the time and dimension traveling Adam Warlock’s partner, was a woman named Quasar. Look her up, and it turns out she exists only as an alternate name for Carol or as Carol and Mar-Vell’s daughter.
ALL IN ALL, how much would it take to convince Marvel to give me the kickass lady Captain Marvel who took her name in honor of her nerdy alien husband?
