This is a little dark, my bad yall… but I read a fic (which I cannot find atm) yesterday where John was getting tortured after being captured during a mission, and it got me thinking- between his military training and the super soldier serum, they’d probably have to get a little creative with their methods and it would probably take a hell of a lot to break him (assuming he was being tortured to give up information of some sort)
With the serum, we know it increases healing speeds. We saw it when John’s broken arm, which should’ve taken about two months to heal, was healed in a couple days. So imagine how quickly other injuries would heal. Surface injuries (cuts, scratches, superficial burns, etc) would probably only take several hours by that standard, while a deep puncture/stab wound wouldn’t take more than a day/day and a half. Depending on how long he’s held they could even rebrake previously broken/half healed bones. I would imagine the expedited healing process would also make it so the bleeding stopped faster, allowing him to sustain and survive more intense injuries that would cause the average person to lose consciousness/bleed out.
And it’s assumed super soldiers have an increased pain tolerance, they are still susceptible to pain. Because his pain tolerance is so high, he’d probably sustain more extreme injuries before actually feeling the amount of pain his captors defined to inflict. I also think his time as an Army Ranger would increase his pain tolerance, or at the very least allow him to react very minimally to the pain. Army Rangers are literally trained to withstand capture and torture. It’s probably pretty difficult to break someone who was professionally trained to withstand all your tactics.
* bonus thought! John gets captured and reverts to what he learned during his enlistment, following the Code Of Conduct by repeating only his name, rank, service number, and date of birth.
