Thisbe arrives first only to be frightened away #by a hunting lioness leaving behind her veil. Pyramus arrives later finds the bloodstained veil and mistakenly assumes a wild beast #has devoured his love. Overcome with grief he kills himself with his own sword. When Thisbe returns she discovers his body #and uses the same blade to take her own life with their blood famously staining the local white mulberries red
