There’s a reason I started a tumblr and it has to do with my favourite person in the world. Grandma’s suffering from her severe stroke at the end of 2015 tears me into pieces. Every single time I visit her, I walk away with my heart shattered.
Grandma ate very healthily, much more so than I do. But whilst she was very mobile and agile - she could stomp her way up the stairs as quickly as a child - she didn’t exercise regularly. Eating well at least ensured she enjoyed a good quality life until her stroke at 88yo. Had she not been careful about her diet, who knows? Her stroke might have happened sooner.
I don’t hate fat people; grandma would be clinically classed as obese. But what I dislike are the arrogance and misinformation spread about the effects of obesity, the promotion of unhealthy habits, the claims that weight has no effect on health, in addition to the double standards, hypocrisy and hatred of people with healthy lifestyles.
Grandma is the reason I encourage REGULAR - not sporadic - exercise. It’s not something to stop doing just because things get busy. I see her suffering and it hurts so bad. I don’t want anyone else feeling the same grief. Ever.
