Thank you for the birthday love everyone! What a day! I started my day with 3 hours of dance with kid 3, a Jack and Jill activity and a volleyball game for kid 1. Kid 1 got to hang out with her siblings at school for a bit while hubby and I enjoy a quiet birthday dinner. Paella and tapas for this foodie was the perfect way to end a hectic birthday. So grateful for the chaos of my life and for all of the birthday wishes. #parenting #birthday #familylife #thismama #joy #paella #spanishfoodct #ctfoodie (at El Pulpo and Tapas Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4GjFM4BFJh/?igshid=p2zaleizc5x0
My kids are competitive about just about everything. I’ve used this to my benefit when it comes to housework. It’s amazing how quickly we can get through laundry when the kids are racing to see who can fold towels faster. Since I’ve caught onto their competitive streak, I’ve turned all chores into a competition. I’m like: “let’s see who can get me 5 bottoms, 5 shirts and 6 undies faster” when we’re packing for a getaway. It has truly worked. They now not only race each other downhill on a ski mountain, but also while doing dishes, clearing the dinner table, cleaning up toys and folding laundry. Talk about a parenting win! #lifelessons #relationships #familylife #parenting #thismama (at Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B37A2TJB9Hb/?igshid=19whnp0i5hhzw
I completed my 100th ride on the @peloton today by taking the Boss Ride with @allymisslove! This was no easy task as a work from home wife and mother of 4 kids between the ages of 6 and 14 - who’s also homeschooling ¾ of them. I started my Peloton journey after earning my black belt in Taekwondo and then injuring my ankle. I rode the peloton with an ankle brace for 6 months. I couldn’t get out of the saddle for a long time and had to overcome pain to keep going. It doesn’t matter how I did it, the fact is that I did. I was able to carve out time for myself on the bike at a minimum of every other day and continue working toward my second degree black belt in Taekwondo with twice per week classes. Was it easy? Heck no. I struggled with whether I would even take a live ride for my century ride? Why? I don’t ride for others? I ride for myself. I ride because I woke up today. I ride for those who can’t. I ride for my health, my sanity and to fill my vessel. Riding allows me a mami timeout that gives me the energy to be present for my kids. A side benefit of the sweat and exertion that I bring to Boss Rides like today, is that it allows me to work to a level of physical fitness to be able to teach kids to read, take them on adventures and even be their mami Uber. My kids are watching what I do and not just what I say! Thank you @onepeloton and my favorite instructors @allymisslove @alextoussaint25 @codyrigsby @jesskingnyc @tune2tunde for allowing this almost 41 year old mami (boss month is also my birthday month) to take care of myself. Now I can join hubby @asantemendes and @stayathomemomyeahright in the century club. Thank you for keeping me motivated. They say, do hard things with others and you all keep me clipping in! What are you doing for yourself today? Thank you @chase for this image of me with two of my four kiddos. As a busy mother of four, I often hear “wow, you have your hands full!” What folks who state the obvious fail to acknowledge is that my heart is in fact what is full. I’m reminded today while looking at this photo, how strong moms are. We get up every day and “keep going” while doing it all out love for our children. This picture truly captures the joy that my active kiddos bring to my life. I wouldn’t change how busy my life is for anything in the world. So today, I got up and gave thanks for my hands being full. To all my fellow moms out there: I see you and your work matters. This little girl is 14 years old today. At age 26, my life totally changed forever by the birth of this cutie. Just recently, I attended my 20th college reunion and a classmate said: what? You have 4 kids and you homeschool them? I can’t believe that! The Ruth that I knew had little patience and extremely high expectations of self and others. I’ve reflected on what she said and I must agree wholeheartedly with her! Wow, I’ve changed so much. Yes, this kid 1 on this day 14 years ago was the first step in those changes. It was no longer just about me and my needs. She’s taught me so much about love and sacrifice. I’ve celebrated my birth and transformation with a 45 minute dance party on the bike. Happy birthday to the one who made me a lot more grace filled and patient. In honor of all that is to come for you in this next year or life, we’re headed on a weekend trip because that’s how we roll! I’ll also be sharing some throw back pictures of some of your adventures through the years. We’ve made the most of every minute that God has blessed us to be your mami and papi! #shes14 #parenting #raisingkids #joy #thismama (at Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B08vbi3hYl2/?igshid=7z8ahc61dudx
I’m so excited to dig into my road trip reading by Joyce C. Day, PH.D. I’m beyond blessed to have met Joyce by chance and had the privilege of sitting with her and shared my own motherhood story for her book. I can’t wait to read this book and highly recommend it. My life has been full of “unexpected detours” and yet I’m exactly where I’m suppose to be doing what I’m suppose to be doing. Salud to all the mothers... whatever your journey may be. #thismama #parenting #sacrifice #intentionalliving #marriage #familylife (at Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0okk0EBLEq/?igshid=1lehi88l8fyzo
