This Raging Light, Estelle Laure-Book Review
Summary: Can the best thing happen at the worst time? Her dad went crazy. Her mom left town. She has bills to pay and a little sister to look after. Now is not the time for level-headed seventeen-year-old Lucille to fall in love. But love-messy, inconvenient love-is what she’s about to experience when she falls for Digby Jones, her best friend’s brother.(goodreads)
First of all, can we all agree on how beautiful this cover is?! I don’t normally buy books without knowing at least the author, but I simply couldn’t resist this one.
I started reading it right away and finished it in two days! One thing that made that possible was how easy it is to read. This raging light is with only 288 pages not only short, but it’s also written in an easy to understand language fitting it’s targeted audience of about 13/14 years.
The characters were all nice to read about and very likeable, but they sometimes seemed a bit flat and everybody (except the parents) was way too nice. I was also a bit sad about the mental health aspect of this book. There were many chances to incorperate those and Estelle Laure tried to do that, but it didn’t really work for me.
The plot was again something that seemed very simple, you didn’t really fear for the characters at any point (except once). The ending however was an aspect I really enjoyed.
All in all this book is definetly worth a read if you are about 13/14 years old or searching for a fast and light read. If you want something deeper with a similar plot you should have a look at Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, but beware that book also thematises incest (in a good way).
Quality: 3/5
