Because Annie is deeply stupid and knows nothing about the legal profession.

The drug cartels hire lawyers who specialise in criminal defence not personal injury. Why would a dealer or drugs boss need to claim for personal injury? They need a lawyer who can negotiate a reduced prison sentence or similar.

Maya’s father is a successful lawyer and minor Texas celeb by the looks of things. I’m pretty sure the book with have been extensively legalled and any ambiguity about grounds to sue would have been removed. It might be that Liam knows Thomas J Henry would welcome the chance to drag him through the courts. He seems that kind of a lawyer. Liam can get a legal team of his own, sure, but the bad publicity would be off the scale.

Nobody owns the rights to their own story, and she changed the name and just said it was based on her experiences. That’s more than enough to let us know it’s Liam in the book. He can’t do a thing about it. And if anything is fictitious, she’s played a blinder because Liam couldn’t pick out one bit to challenge without challenging the whole thing. I have a lot of admiration for what she did. It can’t have been easy, she will have received so much abuse but hopefully more people know what kind of a man he is now.

Absolutely. Maya's father is a billionaire attorney who would eat Liam for breakfast in any trial. His firm even specialises in securing damages for personal injury.

Liam is guilty of everything described in the book, so he stays quiet.
