—Jean-Andoche Junot’s last letter to Napoleon. They were best friends for 20 years. Junot succumbed to early onset dementia and died later that year in 1813 due to several severe head injuries throughout his career. It is one of the many great tragic endings from that time.

What’s hilarious about Alexandre Walewski is even before the DNA Evidence of his descendants in recent times proving he was the son of Napoleon, most historians throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries never doubted or said “well he was the rumored” , nah everyone’s like yeah it’s his son.

Even when Alexandre tried to keep up the facade that Athanasius was his real father. Him being Napoleon’s son must of been an huge open secret. Like everytime he was asked about it he would wink at the camera. lol

Hello! Omg yes the past year or so has been challenging in my personal life, so it’s been hard for me to focus that much on my interests sadly.

I’m honestly very touched by your kind words and it means a lot 💕💕 And btw you are definitely one of my favorite history blogs on this app, so I feel really honored right now.

I definitely would like to come back because I do miss it!! I’ve been thinking about using this as a somewhat broader history related blog, probably mostly French history and the history of the 18th and 19th century. I’m honestly not sure yet, and this will still be dedicated mostly for niche Napoleon related things haha. Either way, it is so nice hearing from you!!

I leave with the sole, but very deep regret of being away from you. The feelings which bind me to you, the conviction that the devotion of my life to your destiny, to the great views which animate you, is not useless to their accomplishment, have made me take an interest in the care of my health which I had never felt before. Without this intimate persuasion, I would certainly renounce all the good I am led to expect from the journey you are allowing me to make.

I leave you also suffering, and still filled with this noble passion which allows no rest for the body and no leisure for age. I fear, I confess, that no human organisation can lend itself to the impulses of this tireless and truly sublime activity with which nature has endowed you.

When what you think, what you say and everything I see you do would be a mere spectacle, I feel that the absence I am going to take would be for me the most sensitive of hardships. Allow me to tell you again that I love you, that I am sorry to leave, that I am impatient to come back to you and that my devotion will only end with my life.
