Forgive me for my lack of coherent English, I haven’t had a proper night of rest since the Germans invaded Poland.

Anyway—I had a thought that I personally haven’t seen anyone else mention or notice…and it’s about Ghost.

Ghost had a little brother named Thomas, but the name that is usually spoken to him is “Tommy.”

It is used as a more endearing term rather than a teasing one. Tommy has gravely accepted the name (despite not actually getting much screen time for him in the comics). The nickname is frankly never talked about; therefore, it is accepted.

Fast forward years later to Task Force 141, we get Soap. Soap’s name is John, later on he is known as “Johnny,” but even better, it was Ghost who gave him that name.

It’s a name that only Ghost calls him, it’s like their own personal little thing that Soap just…welcomes. It’s never brought up, never discussed…it was made into existence and it’s like they knew better than to talk about it.

Soap has even stated—OUT IN THE OPEN—that he only lets Ghost call him that.

Ghost: With Johnny’s help.

Alejandro: I can’t call Soap “Johnny”…

Soap: Don’t. Only Ghost can pull that off.

I don't really know how to put the words together and be specific about it, but this feels like something that Ghost does as a way of saying, "I like you." Like, not buddy-buddy or anything, but it's like holding a hand out to an aggressive cat; that's usually a human trying to say, "I'm friendly."

Can you imagine how hard it would be to get Ghost to even acknowledge something like that? This is the same man who has said, "I'm used to working alone," but also stayed behind for Soap anyway.

I just wonder if adding the letter "y" to the end of Soap's name was a direct reference to Ghost's little brother. Like, listen, I am a Ghoap shipper at heart, but taking off the Ghoap hat for canon reasons, this feels like a very sweet thing to give to a comrade. Ghost is so quiet and gentle with his version of affection (jokes, nicknames, loyalty, etc.) that I can't help but feel...happiness-aggression? I guess that's what I'll call it lol.

I can't help but feel like Soap sort of knew this, which is why he allowed the name to continue. It was something too sensitive and precious to even think about letting someone else call him "Johnny."

I think that's all I want to say. I feel like this would be an easier topic to dissect if we knew more about Tommy.

Senza cappotti. Senza cibo. Solo divise rigide di ghiaccio e speranze finite. Quando vengono scoperte da una pattuglia americana della 89ª Divisione di fanteria, non hanno più nulla. Solo la paura. E il freddo che spezza le ossa. Il sergente Thomas “Tommy” Riley, 26 anni, di Boston, le trova rannicchiate in una stalla distrutta. Una di loro, Anna Becker, 21 anni, sussurra con le labbra viola: “Bitte… lassen Sie uns hier sterben.” (“Per favore… lasciateci morire qui.”) ....

Storia molto commovente e decisamente strappalacrime, peccato che un campanello mi ha suonato in testa da subito. Febbraio 1945 e fiume Elba i conti non tornano, sul fiume gli americani sono arrivati a guerra finita, a stringersi la mano con i russi!

Poi cerchi Thomas "Tommy" Riley o Anna Becker sul web e esce di tutto ma niente in inglese?! Pagine su pagine da facebook in italiano e poco altro? Possibile che in USA nessuno abbia saputo??

A questo punto vediamo cosa ha fatto la "89th Infantry Division" nella seconda guerra:

Decisamente non molto, sono sbarcati in Francia a Gennaio del 1945 e arrivati sul fronte attraversano il Reno solo il 26 Marzo del 1945, quindi erano ancora a parecchi chilometri dall' Elba??!

Che dire, per fortuna non ho facebook, solo che l' AI nel futuro si nutrirà da queste fonti e chissà cosa nascerà?!?
