As someone who has delved into some of the most heinous criminal cases, morbid history, dark human psychology, and taboo topics for research and storytelling, I have to get something off my chest. I usually approach this stuff with good faith, that people who participate in this sort of thing don't realize what they're doing, and this will be no different:
Please DO NOT dehumanize or use dehumanizing language toward others over their choice in fiction.
I cannot stress this enough.
Dehumanization is an evil tactic that paves the way for disgusting behavior toward real people. Harassment, abuse, bullying, and violence (along with other horrific things), in general, can be easily justified and handwaved away by those who practice it as they believe others to be lesser people for doing something benign that they don't like. That includes headcanons, ships, and other forms of fiction that others enjoy.
Even if a person has difficulty determining the difference between reality and fantasy, they are not a lesser person but someone who needs professional help.
Dehumanization is how some of the most atrocious crimes in world history have been committed by absolutely evil people and groups. Those who participate in dehumanization tend to use it for a superiority complex and push agendas. You start doing it for small things toward those you disagree with, and, left unchecked, that behavior will bleed into your daily life. Worse, there are very few exceptions that allow this. I know. I've witnessed the exceptions over the years. Taboo headcanons and shipping are nowhere near them.
I don't care what you like or dislike in fiction; remember that everyone you interact with is just as human as you are and deserves basic respect. If you don't like something, block it for your own mental health and move on. Don't even give it the time of day. Treat others how you want to be treated, and learn to agree to disagree.
Leave the dehumanizing to the fictional villains like Belos, who used this tactic to justify his actions toward the witches of the Boiling Isles, or Frollo toward the Romani and France. Fight against that behavior in reality, or we'll repeat history. Empathy is key. How does anyone expect to win anyone over if they resort to dehumanization?
