// I feel kind of guilty in liking Sam as his own superhero, as Falcon so much (he flies okay so that makes me a bit biased) that it makes me feel torn about him being Captain America simply because I really really like him as his own superhero and not just taking on a role of someone else. I don't know if that makes any sense or not. Either way, he's sexy as hell, but I just don't want Sam to be seen as a "replacement". I want him to remain his own superhero.
//I hear you! I love Sam for being the Falcon. He’s the only one (left) and he does a hell of a good job at it. I don’t think movie Sam is ready to be Cap yet. (Of course neither is Bucky) so I’m hoping that if MCU does intend on having movie Sam become Captain America that they give us more of him; more of him as Sam and more of him as the Falcon. Sam’s no one’s replacement. He’s his own man. (If and) when he does wear the uniform of Captain America, he’ll own the suit and make his own decisions, not “what would Steve do”. Maybe that’s part of why people don’t want Captain America to change. He’s not following Steve because he wants to become Steve.
To be honest, despite all the “Sam just watched his wingman get shot down on the Falcon wings, do you really think he wants back on them again so soon??” arguments I make—which isn’t even valid because “Dude, Captain America needs my help” is all the reason he needs to suit back up and get back up there—let’s face it, Sam is a natural at what he does on those wings and it’ll be a sad day when he put the wings away (if he gets another pair) for any reason because he seems so much freer up soaring in the sky. So that’s part of why I don’t know how that’ll incorporate into him taking over as Captain America with his shield instead of the wings. Guess we’ll find out.
Of course Sam doesn’t have the Super Soldier Serum in him. He doesn’t have Steve’s insane super human abilities but (if and) when the day comes he’ll still be a great leader not because he’s a one man army or can bust through walls but because of the ideals that he believes in. Because it’s not just Steve’s physical ability to fight that makes him Captain America but his spirit and will and strength of heart too and Sam is no lesser man in that aspect. Sam’s not replacing Captain America; he already is in a sense. And you can be damn sure that Sam won’t lose his sense of self just because he’s putting on different battle gear: whatever his fights may be.
