When Was the Time We Lost Our Way? - Thursday Thoughts
Woke up this morning feeling very profound about the world. It inspired me to write a poem - I never write poems! I blame the cold I've recently developed, it's making me arty-farty.
Anyway, I thought I'd share it with you, it's called; "When was the time we lost our way?"
When was the time we lost our way?
When did we become what we are?
Today, we stand, back-to-back,
Keeping our hands firmly in our lap,
When once we stood with pride,
Holding hands, side-by-side
When was the time we lost our way?
Was it when our faith lead us astray?
When our beliefs would help us find the road,
To Salvation, and help us feel we were not alone,
Though each of us, we had our faith,
And those who differed, we’d grow to hate
When was the time we lost our way?
Was it when the skies turned grey,
With war, and the thoughts of one became so strong,
That we lost our senses and followed on,
Hopeless; forgetting our own true voice,
We followed on through fear, not choice
When was the time we lost our way?
Was it when we had our say?
Our time to stand and speak our mind,
Though often words were seldom kind,
Offering no comfort, only mindless derision,
And strangers turned upon the different.
When was the time we lost our way?
Was it when we found ourselves,
And put pay, to all those who labelled and oppressed,
Judging us by how we dressed,
And where our hearts only dared to go,
Was it when we said no.
When was the time we lost our way?
Let’s hope that one day,
We begin to find ourselves once more,
And stand side-by-side,
Standing up for all that we believe, and sharing all we feel,
With our hands in each other’s;
Let’s make this day real.
