How We Handle Fear: Meg/Erik
“There is nothing to fear!” Meg shouted and giggled a little to her fellow performers.
“Or are you girls afraid of a man in a glittery cape?” there were a few chuckles from around the stage. She waved her hands through the air and mimicked the long fluid movements of a cape.
“You mean to tell me that you are all afraid of a man that hides behind a mask?” There was silence.”Without his mask he is nothing to you!” The rehearsal halted completely as everyone gathered around Meg. Now on the spot, she had to think. Meg only wanted things to calm down in her beloved Opera House. While everyone else panicked about the looming threat of the Opera Ghost, she remained playful and calm.
“Buquet was wrong.” She paused as a mischievous grin spread across her face. “He does have a nose! It’s the biggest, most bulbous nose you’ve ever seen!” There were more chuckles now “And his skin is not yellow, but a de-light-ful shade of pink!, so smooth and soft to the touch. Like a baby’s bottom!” Laughter erupted onstage.
“Please tell me you are not afraid of this misunderstood imp! “ she softened her voice and pinched her cheeks “He’s just a scared little boy that’s been riled up, that’s all!” As she spoke it was difficult to hold back her own laughter. Meg had definitely succeeded in lightening the mood. Everyone seemed at ease now that someone had finally spoken of Erik.
Soon after, rehearsals were done for the evening and Meg smiled confidently. She pranced offstage and headed for her dressing room to change.
