Game of Chance - Meg/Raoul

âI think it would be a good idea, Miss Giry,â Raoul nodded with his head in agreement, the only objective in his mind being finding Christine safe and sound, as soon as possible, and glad that the young girl had come up with a place to continue checking. âI couldnât have thought about it better myself.â Pausing his hectic behavior and talking, Raoul slowly lifted his eyes again for them to meet and hold Megâs gaze for a moment. His glance at her was one of admiration; she was worried about Christine, her friend, it was clear that she would do anything for her, and their companionship was strong, judging by what he could see in and out of their rehearsals. How he wished he would have had a friendship like that. Or maybe⊠Something more? Shaking his head to push those thoughts away, Raoul began tying his cravat back to its original knot, suddenly averting the young girlâs eyes. No, he didnât want anything bad to start spreading from mouth to ear and from ear to mouth in the Opera House, specifically taking into account how talkative most ballet girls were. He loved Christine, she loved him back and they cared about each other. But then, how could he explain that tingle in his stomach he couldnât recognize? Worry, that was it. Just that. âShall we go now?â he questioned abruptly, his voice somewhat strained as he stood up from his seat and giving his back to her, turned towards the door. âIt canât be a mystery forever, each one has a solution.â
Meg nodded and her gaze he his eyes briefly. He had cared so deeply for Christine. She was, to say the least, a bit jealous. Sure she had suitors of her own, but never because she had actually fallen in love. Meg was smitten by any man that would give her the time of day, which made meaningful relationships - difficult.
âYes, lets go,â she said, walking towards the door as quickly as he had got up from the chair, âI just hope sheâs safe.â Meg muttered closing Christineâs door behind them. They headed for the stairs and began to ascend in search of Christine. Meg was on point, leading him up to the top of the Opera Populaire. âI wonder if heâs ever seen the view from the roof?â Meg wondered, a smile forming across her lips. But she was quick to dismiss the thought, they had to find Christine. She needed to focus, but that was already proving to be difficult. Meg paused at the door, not entirely sure what they would discover on the other side. âAfter you,â she motioned, figuring if Christine were there she would want to see Raoul first.
